Green Tea from Ten Ren Tea

Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 16th, 2013

For the price - you can't beat ten ren teabags for a quick earthy-green on the go. Grassy and green pepper notes (to my nose/palate) and a light to medium body after a generous 3-4 minute steep. Mild and easy to drink - and I drink this one hot (not iced) with a little sweetener like honey or stevia. (Gasp!)

I love, love, love Darjeeling - especially in the morning - and this bagged version from 2 Leaves and a bud is easy to drink on the way to the office. I love it - even if it is overpriced.

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I had this at a day spa and loved it - so I actually bought a box of the bags. Took me a while to get through but I really like the floral, green and "stemmy" notes of this conveniently bagged tea. Smells great.

Style: Jasmine Pearls – Region: Fujian, China

87 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
May. 16th, 2013

Delicious but expensive. Smells so great in the tin. Floral notes (Duh - it's a jasmine!) and a a pale-greenish brew brew upon a short steep. Do not over-steep this one.
I enjoy watching the little balls unfurl as the water hits them. I have never tried this on ice - but I imagine it'd be good. Oh, I love Jasmin...

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

Better than Lemon ift and a very brightly scented herbal blend. No tea - more of a tisane. Very lemony and great hot if you are congested.

Blah. "Office Tea" - I used to get this in an old law firm I works at who stocked a variety of Bigelow Teas. Blah. Not awful but not good either. Mediocre black tea that steeps-up dark and fairly fast. As others have said, this one is bitter at the end. Tastes ok at first - but bitter aftertaste,

May. 16th, 2013

Really, Alex? I love this one - maybe I am just a noob - but I used to get this at a local coffee shop in the morning and I just LOVED it. Mild green flavor and a huge bag size. I also like the Green Tea Tropical (Which is more like straight fruit).

A very tasty tea with fruity notes and smells great in the bag and while steeping. No sweetener needed. A fave for sure! (But a bit pricey). NOT grassy - very fruity and not so green.

I HATE orange & spice and this one is no exception and is on par with Celestial Seasoning's version (which my mom made us drink as kids). Smells great but tastes like drinking "Orange Potpourri". Blech!

Peach DeTox from Yogi Tea

Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend

53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
May. 16th, 2013

I can't remember if it was the "Detox" or "Peach Detox" that I tried while away on a yoga retreat but I just did not care for it. Too peppery for my tastes - but I guess that is where the "power" of the detox is.

This does not taste like the raspberry FRUIT it is made from the leaves and is supposed to help with Menstrual Cramps. Not sure how well it works but I have only tried it for 1 or 2 "cycles". In general, Yogi Teas are OK, but I tend to favor "Traditional Medicinals" for these types of teas.

Style: Gunpowder Green Tea – Region: ?????

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
May. 16th, 2013

This is an easy-drinking green tea with grassy notes an a faint whiff of herbs (sage? I dunno - but I get an herbaceous quality if you let it steep long enough.) Must steep at least 3 minutes as it brews up "pale". Good hot and OK on ice. I like this one better hot. Super-mild.

I hate straight peppermint tea. I just can't handle all that menthol - but that said - Celestials' is decent and readily available. Simple, one-note, Peppermint. Not my bag, baby!

May. 13th, 2013

Sorry - I just don't care for Lapsang Souchang (smoked) teas in general - and Ito En's is no exception - but that said - if you like smokey back teas with a strong aroma and a full-body when brewed (best served hot - it's just not an "icing" tea) - give Ito En's a try.

I like the roasty-toasty notes of Hojicha - especially iced in summer after a meal of sushi or sashimi - it just makes me feel good. Ito-En is like the McDonald's o Tea in Japan but is less known in the USA. I used to love going to the flagship store in NYC but I think it ,may be gone now. Meanwhile - try Ito En t...

Green Tea - Classic from Bigelow Tea

Meh. Typical green-tasting grassy green conveniently bagged, easily acquirable tea. Not a holy grail by any means - but I'll take this over a cuppa Lipton any day! And, yes, I had this in an old law firm I worked at years back. (Office tea!) And at cheap delis in Philly and NYC.
Oh - and now in 2014 we have this & ...

My 8 year old LOVED this iced and unsweetened and had sample after sample after sample of it at a Teavana store in Boca Raton, FL. We broke down and bought her some. Expensive and uber-fruity. Very good iced. No sweetener needed. You can really smell and taste pineapple in there. So pricey - as are all Teavana. Th...

I can't stand orange spice - and this one brings back memories of childhood - my mom loved this one in the late '70's early '80's. Blech! So cinnamon-y and orange-y and just not my thing at all. Too strong for me. Smells better than it tastes.

An inexpensive English Breakfast (bagged) option from Stash. Not great but not bad either. Black, caffeinated, full bodied and brews up quickly to an inky black (be careful). Readily available. Good hot. (Not ideal iced in my opinion.)
