The aroma is richly roasted pine nuts and toasted chestnuts there are also notes of sweetness, baking bread and molasses. The steeped leaves with toasted nuts and tobacco with a hint of burnt chocolate.

90 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

I thought this tea was fantastic. I loved the vegetable flavors and light floral tone. The only thing I didn't like was the mild sweetness, but that hardly changes how much I enjoyed it. I also loved that I was able to brew four cups out of out one sample packet, without the tea loosing any flavor!

Dong Ding Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 3rd, 2014

This tea just smells so freaking good. It is potent and tends to brew up strong, very roasty, so I recommend going easy on the leaf and/or the steeping time.

The cup is rich and dark cup, and the aroma is very complex, especially if sipping it gradually. Smells like roasted vegetables with a hint of the spent gunp...

Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Black Tea from Eco-Cha

Style: Black Tea – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 27th, 2014

A complex, strange, evolving tea, both unexpected and a bit inaccessible. Try as I might, I cannot mentally perceive this as a black tea...it still screams oolong to me. I find I enjoy it much more if I think of it like an oolong. But, thinking about it like an oolong, it tasted too much like a Bai Hao (Oriental Bea...

Jan. 22nd, 2014

I loved this tea...it is extremely green and light for an oolong, and has a distinctive "tropical greenhouse" aroma. A little picky about brewing, but worth it because the results were pretty astounding when I figured out how to brew it to my liking.

Intensely floral and vegetal, like the inside of a greenhouse fil...

(Shan Lin Xi) High Mountain Concubine Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha

Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 16th, 2014

A roasted tea with a mellow, warm, homey quality. I thought this an exceptional tea, definitely my favorite one sampled from Eco-Cha, but ranking among my favorite oolongs ever sampled.

The dry leaf smells of rich roast, with a background of honey-like qualities.

Upon brewing it becomes much more complex. Aroma...

Jin Xuan Oolong Tea from Eco-Cha

Style: Milky Oolong – Region: Nantou, Taiwan

63 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Jan. 14th, 2014

A buttery-smooth oolong that was pleasing, but I thought a bit boring. I'm not familiar with Jin Xuan (other than reading about it), so it may be that I'm just not a fan of this varietal.

Dry leaf is not very aromatic, but the brewed cup is more so.

Buttery and vegetably, with a smooth, silky texture. The aroma...

A rich and interesting oolong, different from anything I've tried before. Very pleasing.

Dry leaf is loosely packed, takes up a lot of space, and has a pleasant and multifaceted smell, floral but with a light roast.

The aroma on this is similar to a light-to-medium roast, but the flavor is surprisingly bold. Fl...

Jan. 7th, 2014

The aroma is herbaceous and sweet with notes of yeasty undertones. It reminds me of baking bread with herbs. Once steeped the aroma becomes more vegetal with undertones of sage. The liquid is herbal and sweet with floral tones.

I was lucky to get multiple steepings, the first one tasting vegetal and sweet. The seco...

93 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 4th, 2014

The aroma of this tea is strong and bright with floral, oaky, fruity, cocoa notes, and a hint of tobacco notes. It is very complex and fades from one aroma to the other. The brewed leaves start oaky, loamy, and slightly like fresh bread and then fade to lychee tones. The liquid loses all its woody tones and is sweet an...

I loved this one, and it seems to grow on me each time I drink it. It is rich and bold any way I make it.

The leaf has a rich, warming aroma, not very roasted but more homey.

I love the way this tea tastes when brewed in a mug. It's very rich and actually quite bitter. There's a hint of cinnamon in the aroma, ...

The aroma is heady and sweet with strong notes of orchid that fade into vegetal. Brewed the aroma of the leaves are still very sweet and floral with an underlying woody note.

The first steep is mild and sweet with subtle tastes. The second steep is much more intense with notes of vegetal and a sweet aftertaste. The...

This tea has a lovely aroma blending floral and vegetal with an underlying sweetness. The brewed tea has a mild, sweet, and floral aroma.

Green, amber, without excessive grassy astringency and bitterness, with interesting, intriguing flavor evoking forbidden, undesirable, queer associations, with some mawkishness when cooled. Will drink with care. The second steep, without adding fresh tea, was more pleasant.

The aroma of this oolong is very mild, not really vegetal but more like fresh vegetation growing on a spring day. It is also floral and a touch like fresh hay. Once brewed the aroma is much stronger and more floral, especially lilacs.

The tea is very mild, a touch vegetal with a bit of green beans and pine needles....

Definitely among the best oolongs I've sampled. Exceedingly pleasant, easy to brew and drink, and I'd imagine it would also be being pretty accessible.

This tea is marked as "moderately roasted"; it seems to tend slightly toward the greener side., close to what I've seen called a "traditional green" oolong, or a li...

I brewed a cup of this tea and set it down to go do something in the other room, and when I came back, the whole room was full of a wonderful aroma.

Brews a very clear cup with a golden or light amber color. Flavor is very smooth, with no detectable bitterness or astringency. This seems a lot like what I've seen s...

I also found, like Synth, that this tea has a cooling quality. The aroma is malty up front, but it has a strong wintergreen quality to the aroma. Aroma is complex and hard to describe.

Very enjoyable and also rather interesting and different. I'm not sure I'd describe this as one of my favorite black teas, howeve...

this is the first hong yue / ruby black i've tried.

when i sip it, i primarily get a smooth, somewhat malty taste. the aroma is sweet, but there's also something else.. something cooling. i guess it's like aromatic, volatile terpene/camphor/evergreen/eucalyptus type of a smell&feeling.

it's certainly complex, a...

This is the first medium-roast Dong Ding I've tried; prior to trying this one I've only tried the lighter roasted styles of Dong Ding, or medium-roasted oolongs of other styles. I like this one very much.

I did not have much leaf and only had one opportunity to brew this once, using multiple infusions, but the resu...

Sep. 28th, 2010

This jade oolong tastes very little like any Taiwanese jade oolongs I've had, and instead tastes more like a greener, medium-roast Tie Guan Yin. The level of roast is noticeably stronger than what I normally expect from a Jade oolong.

The aroma is of honey and wood. In the second infusion, some herbaceous tones co...

Wow. Rishi gets my attention again with another tea that is recognizable as its style but with its own unique twist. The aroma is astonishingly complex...in addition to the toasty, woody, and fruity tones you might expect from a medium-roasted Tie Guan Yin, there is a strong suggestion of spice (nutmeg, mace, and cin...
