Hao-Ya 'B' Superfine Keemun from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Keemun Hao Ya B – Region: China93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 7th, 2013
This is the only Keemun I've ever tried that didn't smell like perfume. It's got a natural but slight sweetness to it, but it's not overwhelming. Honestly, the only reason I haven't ordered giant tins of this stuff is because it's quite pricey. Well worth it as a once in a while treat, though!

Oh, this is wonderful tea. It's got the maltiness of the Assam but has that slight peppery aftertaste from the Yunnan... I'm starting to think Upton does the best breakfast blends in the business.

Pretty good breakfast blend, although it wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be.

This tea is pretty good. It's smooth. I added cream and sugar. I found it confusing that it was listed as a sachet when it's really a teabag.

My first review and my first Milk Oolong and I'm head over heels in LOVE. Mmmm the smell and flavor are heavenly like milk candies. Very silky, creamy and buttery. I don't really detect any floral notes but there is some vegetal and it is good for quite a few resteeps about 5 or 6. I love this tea!!

I bought this tea on a whim at my local TJ Maxx, because I happened to be out of green tea and thought it would be fun to try something new. I had no idea that I would be finding my favorite green tea of all time. It is just so crisp and pleasant both the aroma and flavor that I can drink it plain or add a little swe...

This is my favorite Assam I've tried yet, excepting a few wholesale-only samples.
Aroma is very complex, suggestive of bread, dried fruit (raisins?), sweet rice, and a hint of wintergreen. There's a lot going on in the aroma; I found myself sipping it slowly and enjoying the different tones that developed.

Makaibari Estate Darjeeling 2nd Flush Black Tea from Arbor Teas
Style: Darjeeling Second Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 3rd, 2013
I always get excited about Makaibari estate and I have not yet been disappointed. This was among one of the smoothest, creamiest teas I've tried from them. It has less bite than the first flush.
Aroma of the dry leaf is suggestive of monsoon/rains teas.
Upon brewing, the aroma becomes much more complex.

I tried a sample of this tea and liked the taste, which was stronger than most basic blacks I've had. I really appreciate the reasonable prices of Ahmad Teas, and plan to be buying and sampling more from them soon.

My favorite pure black tea from Ahmad Tea, and my favorite tea from any company in this price range.
If I had to pick a single example of a classic black tea, I would pick this one.
Like most of Ahmad's teas, I find this one offers exceptional value: solid quality at a very low price. It is versatile and easy to...

I usually drink PG Tips. Chai Bora Black tea has it over the other by far. I was in Africa and drank the Chai Bora and loved it. It makes a good strong cup of tea without the bitterness of some. If you can find it buy it. I have run out and wish I had bought more while I was in Africa.

I only had one bag of this, so I brewed it according to the instructions - straight off the boil and let steep for four minutes. Neither the leaves or the brewed tea had a very strong aroma. I'm not sure what to compare it to: it was something dark and faintly bitter smelling, but not like coffee or chocolate. More lik...

Huang Jin Gui or Golden Osmanthus is one of my favorite types of oolong.
I only had the opportunity to sample this once, briefly, at World Tea East, so I can't comment on experimenting with brewing it in different ways, but I thought it a typical and high-quality example of this type of oolong.

Golden Monkey Black Tea from Teavana
Style: Golden Monkey – Region: Fujian, China80 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 20th, 2012
This is a finicky tea. The flavor is very easy to squash if it is brewed too strong. I found that when I used restraint in the amount of leaves vs water, the chocolaty flavor that one clearly detects on the nose before brewing, will come out. This is a wonderful tea when you get it right, but this may take a few trie...

Style: Sencha – Region: Japan40 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 20th, 2012
This is by far the oddest sencha I have tried. It completely lacked the fresh, herbal, almost "oceany" seaweed taste of an authentic sencha. It contained a stale off note that is hard to describe yet ruined the experience completely.
I cannot help wondering if something awful happened to this tea on its way to th...
China Yunnan from Mark T. Wendell
Style: Black Tea – Region: Yunnan, China90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 20th, 2012
This is a very flavorful black tea from Yunnan China. It is complex and almost peppery, but not in the spicy sense. It is not as sweet as other examples I have tried, but this is not a defect merely a difference. Highly recommend.

To me this lacked the complexity that I expect in Wuyi Shan Cha. It was pleasantly herbal with some sweet and mineral notes, but I go to this kind of tea looking for profundity. I felt it was missing here.

This is dark and earthy. It's less brisk than Indian or Sri Lankan teas, but not sweet either. As is usually the case with this merchant, the quality for the money is wonderful. I don't want this tea every day, but it is a pleasant change from routine. Good stuff!

For me this is much less interesting than Barry's Gold Blend. Perhaps because I drink my tea clear, I find this more astringent version to less palatable. The malt is there, but also a bitterness I don't really enjoy.
