Ceylon Kenilworth from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd

Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Kandy, Sri Lanka

84 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 1st, 2017

A rich, warming, complex black tea. I liked this a lot, although there are other black teas from Murchie's that I like more, like the Scottish Breakfast or Yunnan, in a similar or lower price range.

I have now tried at least five Ceylon teas from Kenilworth estate, all from different companies. This one tasted most ...

Got a sample of this online. It's a very dark brown, with some gold highlights. Brews up a clear dark red. I'm not so good at describing aroma and flavor, so I'll just say it smells and tastes like really good tea.

It's very smooth, just a hint of sweetness with no bitterness or astringency. It doesn't seem to have ...

Ceylon Black Tea (Orange Pekoe) High Grown from Frontier

Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 26th, 2017

I found this tea in the bulk section of a health food store. I've never tried Frontier tea, mostly because I don't trust bulk jars. The jar lids were tight and the teas smelled fresh, though, so I bought an ounce each of several to try. Based on this first sample, I'll likely be buying more.

The dry tea smells stron...

66 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 25th, 2017

I asked the owner of Het Gouden Randje to recommend me a sweet black tea. Once it was cleared up that I wasn't interested in flavoured teas, I was offered this one, and I was charmed with the smell.

It smells warm and sweet with a hint of honey. If you don't use too much leaf, it doesn't easily get bitter even if yo...

Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon

65 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 7th, 2017

The dry tea leaves smell like dried plums. The tea tastes very sweet and maybe kind of spicy. If you don't use too much leaf it doesn't easily get bitter either. It's relatively cheap for a loose-leaf tea, as well. It's pretty nice as an everyday black tea, but the way it smells is the best thing about it.

Nice honey hued liquor. Smooth taste. Classic Ceylon. I think milk or sugar could be added without over powering this tea. Ceylon fans should give it a try.

Thank you to mighty leaf for the sample! This tea is dark, strong, smoky, and complex. It's like one of those software packages that is really intimidating and hard to learn, but powerful once you get comfortable with it. I found it grew on me and I liked it more each time I drank it.

Afternoon Ritual from teakruthi

This is a solid tea. The flavor is lightly muscatel, and it's easy to brew. I used 195 F, as suggested on the package, and that seems best -- but even hotter water worked fine. I like the idea of using this for a somewhat lower caffeine buzz than a morning tea.

I really liked this tea -- when it was prepared just right and very fresh. It has a lovely, subtle aroma and flavor with delightful hints of muscatel, making it a stand out pure tea. However, it was easier to oversteep than others by this brand and the intensity of the first cups magic lessened a bit with second and th...

The more I drink this tea, the more I enjoy it. Initially I felt it wasn't as distinctive as the other teas from this brand, but now I feel like it's simply a quite well-rounded tea. There's a subtle muscatel flavor that's nice. I feel like tea goes particularly well with food. Also, it resteeps very well.

Mar. 23rd, 2017

For me, afternoon caffeine inevitably means insomnia, so I've spent some effort trying to find a decent decaf. I've found a few decaf green teas and Earl Greys that are drinkable, but I've yet to find an unflavored black tea that's worth the trouble. Despite being the most expensive decaf I've tried, Tea Forté's Decaf...

This tea has a pleasant slightly malty flavor. It's a solid black tea best for when an energy jolt is needed, yet it's also possible to relax and enjoy it (along with, perhaps, some other relaxing activity -- such as reading). As always with this brand, the quality of the tea leaf appears high.

One of the most aromatic teas yet from Teakruthi, this tea had a beautiful fragrance, light and fresh, suggesting malt. The leaf is also very pretty, with silvery tips mixed in against a mostly-dark background. I got excited when I opened the bag and saw and smelled the leaf!

Upon brewing the aroma gets much more ...

A light and elegant tea that I'd drink for a quiet break. Oolong-like.

The beautiful and wiry dry leaf has the remarkable aroma of mint candy, creamy and suggesting of sweetness, not a smell I've ever encountered in a pure tea before.

Brews up a cup that is surprisingly subdued. Clean and light, but only a subt...

This is one of those transcendental black teas that somehow manages to be both warming and cooling in the same sip. Eminently satisfying!

I agree with Alex that it has flavors reminiscent of a Darjeeling -- a smooth black tea with slightly raisin-like notes. It would make a very interesting basis for sweet tea (brewed strong with plenty of sugar, then chilled with ice) as made in the southeastern U.S. I found that brewing the tea a bit strong didn't hurt...

I very much like this tea, it is one of my favorite "base" or "default" Ceylons that is sold by any major tea company.

Before steeping, the leaf is aromatic and has a pleasant malty aroma, like an Assam but less fruity.

Flavor is crisp. The cup is very aromatic, mostly malty but with light roasty/toasty notes. ...

This was remarkable, it was like a smoother rendition of a Darjeeling first flush. I found it hard to brew but once I figured it out, it was exquisite. The main downside I found about it, like some Darjeelings, I wasn't crazy about how I felt after drinking it.

Dry leaf smells fresh, bright, fruity, and suggests s...

This tea is strong but smooth -- a nice choice for a breakfast cup. The caffeine gives a boost without a buzz. I tried this tea plain first. The flavor is robust and pleasant, with an accent similar to malt. The leaves have been cut very small and fairly round, enabling a quick infusion.

I also tried it with honey a...

I enjoyed this smooth, versatile tea. Malt is in both the aroma and the flavor and works well with the black tea flavor. There is no bitterness and it's pleasant for multiple cups. An exceptional CTC tea, the best I've ever had, and as complex as many hand-processed, whole-leaf teas. This one really surprised me.

The dry leaf is unusually aromatic for a CTC tea. The aroma is toasty and with a strong maltiness, more like rye than other grain.

The brewed cup smells intensely aromatic, and j...

The dry leaf of this consists of big, dark, coarse looking leaves that are slightly curled. There is a mild toasty and chocolatey aroma. The leaf takes up a lot of space, and you need to use quite a lot by volume to get a strong enough cup.

The first tea I tried from Teakruthi was excellent and enjoyable, but didn't wow me. This one immediately stood out, from before the first sip, or even just smelling the brewed cup.

The dry leaf has a smell that strongly suggests a savory stew. It's malty with a hint of smoke and spice.

When brewed, wow. This ...

I went to try this tea first because I got the sense that it seemed the most "classic Ceylon" of Teakruthi's offerings, and it definitely delivered the character I expected. This is a little less like the types of Ceylons served in British traditions though, and more like the type of tea I find consumed in the middle-...

The regal, royal language on the packaging and website convey an image of heavenly bliss upon being graced with the blessing of having this tea's flavor touch one's tongue. Well, it ain't that spectacular, but this curiously named offering is fairly delicious.
