Kama Sutra Chai from Shanti Tea

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: India

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5

The dry leaf smells a bit like potpourri, and a bit like a regular Masala chai.

Upon brewing, this tea is quite peppery and almost prickly on the palate. The brewed cup is not as floral-smelling as the leaf. Aroma is complex and hard to describe: I definitely notice the clove, but the other aromas seem to blend to...

Rose Petals from Shanti Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: India

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 1st, 2012

I love rose petals, both for brewing as an herbal tea on their own, and for blending with both green and black teas. Brewed on their own they produce a surprisingly strong cup with a reddish color, pleasing rose aroma, and strong flavor. The aroma is very different from most of the light, airy floral aromas, and more...

Citrus Punch from Shanti Tea

Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Blend

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I am very skeptical of flavored teas in general, but this is a flavored tea done well. It is not only completely unlike any orange-flavored tea I have tried up until this point, but it was impressive.

The base tea shows a large-leafed, dark oolong, and the aroma is of both tea and orange.

Upon brewing, there is ...

Kapha Balance - Ayurvedic Tea from Shanti Tea

Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 23rd, 2012

Aroma of the dry leaf is like a masala chai, heavy on the cardamom, but with perhaps a more strong suggestion of dried herbs, like an herb garden.

The brewed cup, red in color, smells much less like a typical masala chai. The rooibos is strongly evident, and there's a pretty strong spicy quality, I think from the g...

Tulsi (Holy Basil) from Shanti Tea

Style: Tulsi / Holy Basil – Region: India

80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
May. 10th, 2012

This is the green leaf, or Rama Tulsi. I prefer the red-leaf, or Krishna tulsi, but this is actually my favorite example of the green-leafed variety that I've tried.

I find green tulsi can sometimes have a metallic quality, and this quality is thankfully greatly diminished in this sample. This tulsi is smoother an...

Los Andes from Shanti Tea

Style: Black Tea – Region: Guatemala

77 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 3rd, 2012

I have been curious about this tea for some time, and I had no clue what to expect, as it is the first tea I have ever tried which was grown in the Americas.

Broken leaf (CTC) and infuses quickly, but does not become bitter if steeped for a long time. Shanti Tea recommends a 2 minute infusion without milk but I thi...
