Licorice(Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a plant that is commonly used as an ingredient in herbal teas. It has strong medicinal properties however, and is not necessarily safe for general consumption. For this reason, RateTea classifies licorice as a wellness or medicinal tea.

Effects on blood pressure

Licorice can raise blood pressure, and this effect is strong enough that it can be dangerous even in the quantities typically used for flavoring candy and herbal teas. For this reason, people who have high blood pressure should avoid anything containing licorice.
