Chicago Tea Garden – CLOSED

About Chicago Tea Garden

Chicago Tea Garden was a tea company founded in 2009 and opened for business in 2010, founded and owned by Tony Gebely and Erin Murphy. Tony Gebely also runs World of Tea, a blog and informational website about tea. Chicago Tea Garden is no longer in business.

Chicago Tea Garden had a small selection of rare teas available in small batches. The company launched with offering a single green, black, and oolong tea, and several aged pu-erh teas, including two unusual offerings of teas that have been aged inside hollowed citrus fruits.

Chicago Tea Garden also sold New Zealand-grown oolong teas from Zealong, which RateTea lists under that brand.

Picture of Sticky Rice Pu-erh Tuocha

This might be the most peculiar tea I have ever tasted. I received it with a mixture of flavored Sheng and Shu Pu Erh Tuochas and had to try it first because I love sticky rice as a food. The aroma is mostly sweet sticky rice with a slightly fishy undertone from the Pu Erh. The taste is so unusual!!! You can taste the ...

Huh, a black tea made in the style of a green. How 'bout that? The leaves have been hand-rolled in a heated wok so they seem to be like Bi Luo Chun - Green Snail Spring. This lovely gold dust [from the golden bud hairs] covered tea comes from Yunnan Province, China and tastes much like a usual Yunnan, woodsy, a tad...

I had only had pu-erh once before and thought it was ok, but nothing to get excited about. This didn't really change my mind, but I found it to have an intriguing earthy smell and taste, set off well by putting some skin in to brew with it. Mine didn't have a zesty orange taste, but was rather a pleasant, mild, smoot...

Picture of Sticky Rice Pu-erh Tuocha

Good tea, very strange though. It smelled and tasted like Sticky Rice throughout the 7 infusions that I steeped. I'm not sure if I am a big fan of that sticky rice flavor, so I can only see myself drinking this tea every once in a while. Regardless, it was a cool find and an interesting tea to come across.

Finally got my hands on I’ve only had a sample of this back when Tony opened Chicago Tea Garden, but it left quite the impression on me, as i’m always thinking back to this tea when trying out other Tie Guan Yins. The smell is fruity and floral and the taste replicates the smell quite a bit.The flavor is very smoo...
