↑About Upton Tea Imports
Upton Tea Imports is a loose-leaf tea company, founded in 1989, and headquartered in Holliston, MA. Upton originally was located nearby in Hopkinton, MA. Upton is the tea company that inspired the creation of RateTea; Alex Zorach started ordering teas from Upton and created RateTea as a tool to keep track of teas they were drinking.
Upton mostly sells single-origin teas, and often sells ones in limited batches; their catalogue changes frequently. Their offerings include many organic teas, certified by Baystate Organic Certifiers, as well as a few fair trade certified teas. Many of their organic teas are comparable in price to corresponding non-organic counterparts. In addition to tea, Upton also sells a few teapots and tea-related accessories.
Upton publishes the Upton Tea Quarterly, a mail-order catalog and newsletter which also contains educational and historical information about tea. Past editions of the Upton Tea Quarterly are available on Upton's website, going back through 2006. An incomplete archive going back to 1998 can be found on archive.org.
In order to ensure freshness, Upton tea packages tea only when it is ordered, marks the date of packing, and personalizes the labels on each package of tea ordered.

A light tea containing a good amount of peach and floral flavors. One can tell that there are artificial flavors added. A pleasant summer tea.

This is a pretty average, everyday Darjeeling. It has a mostly dry, woody flavor and aroma. Unlike many Darjeelings, it goes better with a little milk than with lemon and sugar. I wonder which tea estates are considered the best. So far Castleton is not getting me very excited.

This is a light, pleasant Darjeeling with a little peppery bite in the finish. The aroma is earthy and nice. It goes well with either milk or lemon and sugar. However, this tea is overpriced imho. My taste buds report that it is not greatly superior to an average Darjeeling, yet it costs twice as much.

The aroma is a mild fruit (peach) scent. The liquor (5 min steep) is deep brown. The flavor is mild, no sharp notes or after taste. Easy sipping tea, for anytime of the day.
Read Full ReviewThe aroma is mild, slight hint of fruit. The liquor (5 min steep) is a dark, coppery brown. Nothing outstanding, mild overall. Easy to sip all day.
