You can tell this tea was created by those who are very proficient in their art because it has the charcoal notes you expect, but they are mellow and it is not a kick to the face with a boot full of coal.

As I take my first steep you can hear me sigh with relief, well if you were in the same room as me you would hear it. The taste is mild, it start...

Review of Jin Xuan Oolong Tea by Brytta Sóþword

Wow, this is quite a different tea from any others I've tried. Its flavor is at once vegetal, silky, savory, and a little salty. It's almost broth-like in its flavor and texture, but far more smooth. It tastes like a tea that would be good in the winter when you're craving something substantial and comforting, but not in a sugary way. It's good, but definitely a tea to save for when you're in just the right mood for it.

Update: In those moments, this tea is perfect. Totally satisfying, high quality tea....

Review of Dong Ding Oolong Tea by Brytta Sóþword

I definitely noticed a nutty/roasted flavor and aroma in this tea. That isn't my favorite flavor to find in tea, but it tastes of good quality and would likely be very enjoyable to someone who *does* have that preference.

I brewed it at 195 °F and steeped it for 3 minutes. This gave it plenty of flavor without turning the drink bitter. I didn't notice any sweetness the way that other reviewers have. The color of the brew was rather auburn. I left the water warming in my tea kettle, which concentrated t...

Review of Red Jade Tea by Amanda

The aroma of the curly long leaves is nothing short of complex, blending rich cocoa, roasted peanuts, cloves, a bit of barley, and a woody quality. The aroma is more savory than sweet, in fact it is all savory instead of sweet, with a strong and heavy presence. This is a tea that will be noticed!

With the first sip I am immediately struck by the complexity. At first there is a smooth woody and roasted nut quality with a hint of cloves. This fades to a mint and licorice midtaste that has a cooling sensat...

Review of Organic High Mountain Oolong Tea by Kelsey

I thought this tea was amazing. It went further than any tea I've had before at 5 cups with the same leaves, with a similar strength. I honestly think I could have brewed more, but my meeting was finished and I had to dump the remainder. I could gush about the vegetal taste of this tea, it was all I could want and more... I also enjoyed how meaty it was. A little expensive for me, but I would splurge if I had the extra cash. This one gets an A+ in my book!

Review of Dong Ding Oolong Tea by Kelsey

I especially enjoyed the roasty flavor of this tea. There definitely was a slight sweetness, which from my own preferences, I wasn't a huge fan of. I always find it impressive when I get a few cups of tea with similar strength off the same leaves, and this tea delivered. I've only had two oolongs from Eco-Cha so far, and out of the two I enjoyed the High Mountain Oolong substantially more. I thought both teas were of high quality, it's more about my tastes... I'm a vegetable-y tea kind of girl.

Review of (Shan Lin Xi) High Mountain Concubine Oolong Tea by Amanda

The aroma of the loose leaves is a mix of roasted nuts, honey, and sesame seeds. It reminds of sesame honey candy and is quite delicious smelling. Brewing the leaves brings out vegetal qualities and sharp notes of fruit and osmanthus flowers. The liquid without the leaves have a roasted nuts and lettuce aroma.

The taste is honey sweet with notes of osmanthus, roasted nuts, molasses and cocoa. The next steeping brings out stronger roasted notes and smokey tones with a slight bitterness. I loved the vegetable flavors and light floral tone. The only thing I didn't like was the mild sweetness, but that hardly changes how much I enjoyed it. I also loved that I was able to brew four cups out of out one sample packet, without the tea loosing any flavor!

Review of Dong Ding Oolong Tea by Alex Zorach

This tea just smells so freaking good. It is potent and tends to brew up strong, very roasty, so I recommend going easy on the leaf and/or the steeping time.

The cup is rich and dark cup, and the aroma is very complex, especially if sipping it gradually. Smells like roasted vegetables with a hint of the spent gunpowder smell from fireworks. Flavor is rather sour. I've tended to find most of the Eco-Cha teas to be more sour than my tastes, and this one is the most sour...in this one, the sourness plu...

Review of Shan Lin Xi High Mountain Black Tea by Alex Zorach

A complex, strange, evolving tea, both unexpected and a bit inaccessible. Try as I might, I cannot mentally perceive this as a black tea...it still screams oolong to me. I find I enjoy it much more if I think of it like an oolong. But, thinking about it like an oolong, it tasted too much like a Bai Hao (Oriental Beauty) oolong, a style of tea that I'm not a big fan of, although I liked it much better than most Bai Hao.

Dry leaf looks like an oolong, and smells like an oolong, with a little roast evid...

Review of Tsui Yu Jade Oolong Tea by Alex Zorach

I loved this tea...it is extremely green and light for an oolong, and has a distinctive "tropical greenhouse" aroma. A little picky about brewing, but worth it because the results were pretty astounding when I figured out how to brew it to my liking.

Intensely floral and vegetal, like the inside of a greenhouse filled with tropical plants. The floral scent is remarkable in how it resembles actual flowers...a lot of green oolongs are "floral" to varying degrees but this one really is like sticking my n...

Review of (Shan Lin Xi) High Mountain Concubine Oolong Tea by Alex Zorach

A roasted tea with a mellow, warm, homey quality. I thought this an exceptional tea, definitely my favorite one sampled from Eco-Cha, but ranking among my favorite oolongs ever sampled.

The dry leaf smells of rich roast, with a background of honey-like qualities.

Upon brewing it becomes much more complex. Aroma of light roast, honey, wood. I don't find this tea matches Eco-Cha's description...it's not particularly floral and I'm not noticing the dry finish either. The finish seems slightly sour a...

Review of Jin Xuan Oolong Tea by Alex Zorach

A buttery-smooth oolong that was pleasing, but I thought a bit boring. I'm not familiar with Jin Xuan (other than reading about it), so it may be that I'm just not a fan of this varietal.

Dry leaf is not very aromatic, but the brewed cup is more so.

Buttery and vegetably, with a smooth, silky texture. The aroma reminds me a little of sappy tropical plant stems, but it's more like straight butter or buttered vegetables.

Very pleasing.

Dry leaf is loosely packed, takes up a lot of space, and has a pleasant and multifaceted smell, floral but with a light roast.

The aroma on this is similar to a light-to-medium roast, but the flavor is surprisingly bold. Flavor tangy or slightly sour, yet with little astringency. Aroma is of cinnamon and gingerbread, with tones of honey and vegetables.

It reminds me of baking bread with herbs. Once steeped the aroma becomes more vegetal with undertones of sage. The liquid is herbal and sweet with floral tones.

It is very complex and fades from one aroma to the other. The brewed leaves start oaky, loamy, and slightly like fresh bread and then fade to lychee tones. The leaf has a rich, warming aroma, not very roasted but more homey.

I love the way this tea tastes when brewed in a mug. It's very rich and actually quite bitter. There's a hint of cinnamon in the aroma, but I thought the aroma was mostly floral and herbaceous.
