Pretty tasty, though minus the delectably smoky flavor of the Republic of Tea's green tea w. toasted rice. Brews quickly, often on sale at my local coop.

Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India

77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 8th, 2010

Very green character, even more than typical for a first-flush, both in the appearance of the leaves and the aroma. The cup is a deep amber color. The aroma is light and mostly floral, almost reminiscent of queen Anne's lace blossoms. On my second brewing I did detect a faint suggestion of spearmint in the aroma, an...

Jan. 7th, 2010

In contrast to Upton's broken-leaf teas from Darjeeling and other Himalayan regions, I am continuously disappointed by Upton's broken-leaf Ceylons, and this one continues the pattern.

Brewed as recommended, this tea is undrinkably strong. I recommend using less leaf and a much shorter steeping time. Even then, it'...

I find this tea way too tart both hot or iced. I don't like to add sugar to my tea, so I don't drink this one very often.

Linden Leaves Tea from Badia

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 5th, 2010

In certain ways, this tea is similar in aroma to linden blossom tea, although is is richer and has more of a savory, spicy quality. Still somewhat floral, however. A suggestion of honey in the aroma, and a bit of a sort of light, bready quality. The aroma reminds me somewhat of walking under a Linden tree when the t...

Holy Basil, Rama (Tulsi) from Mountain Rose Herbs

Style: Tulsi / Holy Basil Tea – Region: United States of America

87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 5th, 2010

I wouldn't have thought to make tea out of basil, so it was convenient when I encountered tulsi tea. Pleasant in its taste and strong herbal aroma, Mountain Rose's tulsi is an enjoyable deviation from run-of-the-mill herb teas. You can let it steep for longer than your average green or black tea to relatively little de...

Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 5th, 2010

Disappointing for a first flush and even among broken-leaf Darjeelings. There's a heaviness to the flavor, even though it is smooth. I'm detecting neither the "fresh floral note" nor the "hint of citrus".

I'm not sure what to recommend with the brewing; if you go longer this tea becomes heavy, although not too bit...

Jan. 5th, 2010

Incredibly strange tea, but I loved every moment of it! It tastes just like roasted chestnuts, and not even in the fake syrupy way- it's a clean flavour with no sour aftertaste.
The smell however is different, almost unpleasant to me- it's sort of sickly sweet? Especially if you just smell the tea bag. But thankfully...

Tippy Assam from Williamson Tea

Jan. 4th, 2010

A bold and powerful tea but with some complexity. Fine broken leaf. Infuses quickly...I recommend one and a half minutes, and using less than a teaspoon of leaves. However, if you enjoy a stronger cup, this tea does not get as astringent as you might expect if you brew it longer.

Aroma malty, slightly more vegeta...

I mixed this flavored rooibos with jasmine pearl dragon gunpowder rolls. I've been very happy with the tea. It drinks with a full body and spicy almost cinnamon aroma. The coconut is present but subtle. The ginger really only shows upon a second infusion. Unpleasant to drink extremely hot.

This tea is so good that I asked the ratetea.net guys to add it to their database!

It's a wonderful black tea (So, you get a pretty good caffeine hit from it.) that is made even better with just the right amount of apricot flavoring. The apricot flavoring is strong enough so that it doesn't disappear behind the Ceyl...

Style: Darjeeling Autumnal Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India

77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 2nd, 2010

Like the other teas I've tried from Fresh Darjeeling tea, this is totally unlike any other black tea I've ever tried.

Aroma very complex...malty, and much more vegetal than most black teas, and with some savory qualities, a hint of smokiness. Reminds me of a tippy assam more than any other Darjeeling I've tried. I...

Style: Sencha – Region: Vietnam

80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Jan. 2nd, 2010

I would not recognize this tea as sencha from either the appearance of the leaves or the aroma of the dried leaf or brewed cup. There's only a faint suggestion of the characteristic sencha aroma, barely emerging and then vanishing.

The aroma is vegetal, but less seaweedy than sencha, and more savory. Tastes more s...

Monks Reserve-Castelton Estate from Fresh Darjeeling Tea

Style: Darjeeling Oolong – Region: Darjeeling, India

67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 30th, 2009

Like the other teas I've tried from Fresh Darjeeling Tea, this tea is completely unlike anything I've ever tried! It is also the only Darjeeling oolong I've had that is rich and full-bodied.

Brews a dark color, darker than some Darjeelings I've seen classified as "black" teas. Malty, with a savory quality to it, a...
