Yorkshire Tea Traditional from Yorkshire Tea

Feb. 20th, 2012

This was my go to afternoon tea until I tasted the Yorkshire Gold. Lovely, intriguing aromas and rich body. Great with a splash of milk. N.B.: This tea MUST be kept in an airtight container as it fades away very quickly when left in the box.

Picture of Pure Assam Tea Bags

Pure Assam Tea Bags from Taylors of Harrogate

Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India

60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 20th, 2012

UPDATE: Good Assam with fine aroma, full bodied with that slight weakness in mid-palate characteristic of pure Assams, smoky finish. One negative: it seems to have a short shelf life as loose tea. As I write this, it is harvest time in Assam, and this tea (fresh from the vendor) seems to be faded or of lesser quality.

Simply put, this is the finest Earl Grey I've yet to try. Perfect balance of bergamot with the rich tea used. Fine aroma, flavor and finish.

A few years ago, this was a very good tea. Just tried the current release. Bleh! An overly herbacious black tea overwhelms the rest of the cup.

Earl Grey Filterbags from Tazo Tea

67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 18th, 2012

I typically do not care much for western styles of black tea, but this Earl Grey is pretty good. The bergamot may seem a bit overpowering, but actually it's a fairly balanced tea. It is probably an acquired taste, and is good for people who want a truly strong and dark black tea.

When I got this tea initially, I did...

Awake English Breakfast Filterbag from Tazo Tea

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

43 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5

Opaque and dark black tea with a bit of smoothness. It has some unique qualities and is not the typical black tea, but it lacks any real complexity or richness. Quite plain, really.

Passion Filterbag from Tazo Tea

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend

30 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5
Feb. 15th, 2012

Since I usually drink straight black tea I wanted to be a little adventurous and tried Passion, but was not satisfied.

The rich red color of this tea intrigued me, but its fruity flavor was far too strong. Barely steeped for a minute, my cup was already overwhelming.

New Vithanakande Estate Pekoe from Upton Tea Imports

Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Ratnapura, Sri Lanka

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 13th, 2012

This is a Ceylon whose character is somewhat in between the high-grown, lighter Ceylon black teas and the richer, maltier ones. Strong but smooth, with tones of rice, wintergreen, and malt. Very rich red-brown color.

Although this tea is initially quite smooth, the aftertaste is rather tannic: bitter and astringen...

Green Tea - Classic from Bigelow Tea

Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????

43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Feb. 12th, 2012

It's funny, the other reviewers comment on how they've had this one in office buildings, and I also have memories of drinking it in an office too.

Recognizable as a Chinese tea (some brands, like Twinings, use Japanese tea or at least a Japanese style of tea for their basic green tea), but otherwise somewhat generic...

Green Tea from Lipton Tea

Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????

67 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 12th, 2012

This one starts with a familiar vegetal/grassy note, with a touch of mustiness. More of the same on the palate, a firm vegetal character, slightly dull. Decent body; midweight. Very mild but notable astringency, oversteeping brings this out more. As for value, this is my go-to green tea; at around $4 for a box of 40...

Feb. 12th, 2012

I find this tea to be very refreshing. It's aroma invokes clean laundry and spring. I've only recently become a tea drinker, so my experience isn't extensive, but this tea has helped me give up diet coke and cigarettes.

Honey Vanilla Chamomile from Celestial Seasonings

Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: ?????

80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 10th, 2012

I love chamomile teas, and the herbs and flavors in this tea only enhance the strengths of the flower. The aroma is mild, but floral with a hint of honeyed sweetness. The color is a rich amber, and that's with one teabag for 16 ounces of water. The body is on the heavier side for a chamomile tea, which I love. Perhap...

Green Tea - Classic from Bigelow Tea

Style: Green Tea – Region: ?????

40 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 10th, 2012

This is the green tea in my office; perhaps that alone makes me dislike it more. Maybe I'm unsophisticated, but I take the aroma to be weak and bland, not delicate. It has a very light body, and fairly pale copper hue. The flavor is mild, and lacks both the grassiness and the roastiness that I associate with most de...

This tea is pretty good. Not too vegetal for my taste. I don't usually like high-quality green teas, so this tea must not be very high-quality. I added cream and sugar.

Feb. 9th, 2012

I’m kind of a matcha noob, mostly because matcha is so expensive, but Red Leaf seems to have matcha at good prices. I’ve only had maybe two different matchas in my life so this Starter matcha is perfect for me. It’s kind of like how California Rolls are a perfect starter sushi. It’s pleasant and mild and hard t...

I really like this tea. I like dark and strong white teas. I didn't think much of it at first, but I started drinking it all the time because it's convenient. It doesn't take long to get really strong, and it's not bitter at all, which I like. Now it has grown on me, and I never get tired of it. I drink it with cream a...

I'm sorry, but I really don't see the pear flavor in this. The oolong quality is also obviously low and crumbly.

Nutty Almond Cream from Tiesta Tea

53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 2nd, 2012

Completely unlike any other herbal tea I've tried. Not my type of blend, but very high-quality for what it is, and I can imagine others might love it.

Brews a bright red, semi-opaque cup with oil droplets on top. Aroma suggestive of a jam-filled pastry: nutty, bready, suggestive of sweetness and cooked apples. Fl...

I really enjoyed this tea. It's Delightful. As the description says: It has complex notes".

If you get the brewing just right its has a great deal of flavor. I steeped mine for 5 minutes and found it just right.

I suggest you separate your daily use from the package as it changes quickly with exposure to air. Th...

Rooibos (Formerly Red Mellow Bush) from Numi Organic Tea

Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Jan. 29th, 2012

This rooibos had an unusual complexity for a tea bag. However, it also had considerable astringency.. Aroma slightly fruity, earthy, and with straw-like tones.

Rich. Not the smoothest rooibos though. I'd take this over most brands of rooibos sold in tea bags, although at home I prefer loose-leaf rooibos.

I wasn't sure what to expect as this was the first white tea that I've sampled, but I was definitely satisfied!

Chestnut Tea from Adagio Teas

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This tea had the most buttery and sugary and nutty aroma. These were the things that popped into my head: burnt sugar. Creme Brule. Multi-grain pancakes (smothered in butter and warm syrup, of course). Notice how none of those say “chestnut”? That's because I've never had a chestnut, so I can't say whether or not t...

Jan. 21st, 2012

This tea was barely like other gunpowder green tea, and much more like other high-grade Chinese green teas. The loose leaf is only loosely rolled, and looks quite delicate.

Aroma is vegetal and light, and suggests sweetness. There's no overt smokiness but there's a suggestion of camphor in the aroma, which I disli...
