Earl Grey Lavender from Rishi Tea
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend97 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 9th, 2011
I'm a fan of Earl Grey tweaks, so I expected to like this mix with Lavender and other herbs, but it is better than were my high expectations.

Clean tasting, mild, with a slightly bitter caramel-like quality. A bit flat, simple tasting, but very pleasant. Has a cooling quality, even when hot, and I think it would make a very classic iced tea.
I was expecting this tea to be similar to Upton's ZP20, Panyang Congou Select, because of the similar name, but i...
Golden Kenya GFBOP/TGFOP from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Black Tea – Region: Kenya83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

Surprisingly interesting aroma of the dry leaf....fruity but in a way distinct from any other sort of black tea.
Brewed cup is very complex: initially malty and very fruity, with a strong fennel aroma. Not much bite up-front, but there is a strong but pleasing bitterness, and a very bold peppery finish like a Yunna...
Dragon Pearl Jasmine from Harney and Sons
Style: Jasmine Pearls – Region: Fujian, China90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 1st, 2011
I was pleasantly surprised by this Jasmine. Typically I find that Jasmine teas smell fantastic but brew super bitter and tasteless. Dragon Pearl Jasmine, on the other hand, was both aromatic and flavorful without being overpowering. A solid choice for Jasmine.

I never thought I'd say this, but I encountered the first truly bad tea from Upton. The dry leaf had a stale smell, none of the fresh grassy tones that sencha usually has. I would not recognize this as sencha from the aroma of the dry leaf, nor from the brewed cup. The leaf and the color of the cup looks more like b...

This is not what I was expecting. It doesn't seem very much like chai, but it has this sweet aroma that reminds me of hot mulled cider. The flavor tastes almost repulsive to me, like flour, or some spice I don't recognize that reminds me of bad-tasting cookie dough. Kind of bitter and sweet, but in a way that clashes. ...

A delightful and complex black tea. Very robust and full-bodied, moderate bitterness, but not overly caffeinated. Aroma simultaneously a little smoky, fruity, and malty, with no one quality dominating the others. Very balanced. Very pleasing.
I can see this becoming a favorite everyday black tea for me: it is mu...
Citrus Chamomile Herb Tea from Novus Tea
Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: ?????63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 18th, 2011
Much lighter than a pure chamomile tea, the lemongrass is very noticeable. I'd say that this is more like a lemon herbal tea with a hint of chamomile than the other way around. There's a slight strangeness in the aroma, especially in the finish, it's almost a suggestion of mushrooms, hard to describe.
Good overall...
Dejoo Estate TGFOP(S) from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Assam – Region: Lakhimpur, Assam, India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 15th, 2011
Dry leaf's aroma is more suggestive of a Keemun than an Assam. Brewing, I find this tea fits Upton's description very closely:
It's deep and malty, a faint hint of fruitiness (less than the dry leaf suggests), dark, but very smooth, and with some fresh herbaceous tones. Strong but without being overly bitter. Som...
Rooibos from Wegmans
Style: Rooibos – Region: South Africa57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 13th, 2011
Aroma somewhat earthy, very woody, only very slightly fruity. Flavor smooth, not even a trace of bitterness, and only minimally sour, but moderately astringent, leaving a bit of a dry aftertaste. I really notice wood more than anything else...tastes a lot like tree bark.
I've had better rooibos and I've had worse....
Holiday Tea (Sachets) from Harney and Sons
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 10th, 2011
I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about this one. It definitely has that "Christmas" vibe to it, and was less like a typical spiced tea. Aroma of cinnamon, clove, and with a suggestion of vanilla (although that is not in the ingredients). The nuances of the base tea don't really come through, but there is definitel...

There's something a little off about this kind of tea. It has this sickly sweet flavor that I don't know how to describe. I added sugar and cream.

When I first tried this tea, I thought it was reallly good. I wasn't expecting it because I'm not a big fan of green tea, but I do love chai. I thought it was really good for a chai tea. But it takes a really long time to brew. Now that I've been drinking it for a while, I don't like the flavor so much anymore. I don't...

This is a very good, light tea. The aroma is mild and actually pretty boring, but the flavor is wonderful (although still mild). It is not too sweet and not overwhelmingly berry-y -- more delicate and earthy, as the box says. It reminds me more of the seedy aftertaste of raspberries than of raspberries themselves. ...

I'm a big fan of chai, so I would have thought this tea would be good, except I tried it because my friend said it was terrible. I was open to liking it, but she was right. It has an overwhelming flavor of cinnamon, looming to suck its victims into a drowning cinnamon abyss. I had about 3 sips of it, with added sugar a...

I suspect this is from Makaibari estate, not just because of the fair trade and organic certification, but because it bears the familiar aroma of black teas from that garden.
This particular batch is exceptionally fruity, one of the frutiest Darjeelings I've tried yet. There is an intense grape aroma, so sweet and ...

(2009 Harvest) This is an impressive tea, and the first perfect rating I've ever given here. Life in Teacup provided me with a sample generous enough to experiment a bit with brewing.
This tea is so intensely flavorful and aromatic, that I settled on using a little less than 1 teaspoon of leaf, and brewed four infu...

A solidly good, classic, but perhaps slightly boring Taiwanese Jade Oolong. Sold for a surprisingly reasonable price!
Aroma is mostly of butter with a little honey and some faint floral tones. Buttery-smooth flavor: sweet, with no bitterness. To my tastes, a bit too buttery, and not very tea-like.

I like this tea a lot, even though I didn't follow the steeping instructions exactly for the perfect cup, which involve dancing with a loved one while the tea is steeping. But the tea still turned out very good. I like to drink it with sugar and cream.

Smooth initial flavor. I feel a bit conflicted giving this one such low ratings because it does have many good qualities, but I just disliked it overall.

Aroma strongly peppery, much more so than a typical honeybush. Only slightly fruity. Very flavorful: a rich flavor with some bite, more like black tea, but with a smoother aftertaste. Mild, earthy finish.
Relatively simple and staightforward, but pleasing. Above-average for the quality I'd expect from a teabag.
