Peach Oolong (Peachy Oolong) from Adagio Teas
Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa97 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 4th, 2010
With over 50 loose leaf teas in my cupboard, this is one of my consistent favorites. The peach aroma and flavoring is distinct, but not overwhelming. The nutty roasted oolong base continues to shine through. This is a solid tea at a great price.

I loved the peach aroma, but the fruit flavoring totally overwhelmed the subtle taste of the white tea. All peach and no tea.

The aroma and flavor is decidedly fruity with floral undertones. It transports me. This was a "gateway" tea for me as I made the jump to loose leaf tea. I've found that other tea newbies also like it. Available loose or in silken tea pouches. Makes a great gift.

An incredibly smooth black tea with not a hint of astringency. This was my first Golden Moon tea. I was favorably impressed.

No-frills, light green tea you normally find in office buildings and drink because there's nothing else around. Strangely, it brews a sort of redish color... makes me wonder. All in all, a forgettable, satisfactory flavor– amazingly, not terribly bitter. I'm sure however, if you leave the teabag in too long it'll be ...

I found this tea bag at a church event and tried it out of curiosity. I really wasn't expecting much, given that this tea was discontinued over a year ago and the bags are individually wrapped only in paper, so the particular tea bag that I sampled wasn't terribly fresh, but I will say that I was pleasantly surprised....

This is my favorite of bagged ginger teas.
The aroma is clearly quite gingery, but here the lemongrass also comes into play. It has a very spicy, peppery flavor on first sip, but the liquorice root smooths you along to a slightly sweet finish.
I personally prefer my cup of ginger tea to be intense, so I generall...
A-Li-Son Oolong Tea from Tradition
Style: High Mountain Oolong – Region: Chiayi (County), Taiwan87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

Now and then I buy tea loose-leaf tea in Chinatown, Asian import stores, and other specialty food stores, and I am often disappointed. However, this one was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting much: I bought 100 grams of this Alishan Oolong for $7, which seemed extraordinarily cheap. I've had better Alishan Oolo...

I'm not a fan of decaffeinated teas. This tea, drawing most of its characteristic qualities from its flavoring, is a lot better than any unflavored decaf tea I've had. But, it really just strikes me as an herbal orange spice blend with some dark color and muted bitterness added. In fact, Bigelow makes a pretty good ...

Artificial-smelling coconut aroma, which dissipates into mango, with the coconut returning in the finish. I don't notice any oolong presence or any tea presence for that matter. If anything, the tea only imparts a slight soapy quality. Brews a clear amber cup, with no bitterness and no astringency, and a hint of unp...

Outstanding. Although this is described as "dark roast", it's greener than a lot of other roasted Yerba mate. The roast is not uniform, and the dry leaf has just as much green as dark brown pieces. I think this mix of roast imparts a complexity to the aroma: it is simultaneously deep and fresh.
The brewed cup is ...

These berries produce an almost transparent infusion: I can hardly tell that I have infused anything at all by looking at it. But the cup is strongly aromatic and the flavor is intense.

This is the first Hubei Keemun I've tried, and I will say it is quite different from other Keemuns, and in fact, quite different from anything I've ever had: count on Rishi to locate and select innovative teas, although I still can't make up my mind about whether I like this particular innovation. I tried brewing this...

I've now tried quite a few different sources of tulsi and I can say that this is one of the best. This is the first blend I've tried--in the past I've only had Rama or Krishna tulsi, and I tend to prefer Krishna tulsi as it's smoother.
I brewed this with boiling water and let it steep for 15 minutes. Steeping less...
Loose Fresh Green Yerba Mate from Mate Factor

Very good in the end, but I found this one tough to brew properly. The package gives several different ways of preparing, but doesn't specify brewing instructions in much detail. The dry leaf has an incredibly fruity aroma, like apricot.
This is a strong black tea with a very pleasing aroma and flavor. It is malty like an Assam, but with less edge. Unfortunately, there's only a hint of the pleasing fruity quality that I noticed in the dry leaf. Less bitter than you'd expect, and not very ...

This is a really smooth delicious Yunnan. It is woodsy, with honey and astringent notes mixed in. The aroma is very Yunnan, with a bit of floral around the edges. I brewed about 1.5 teas. for 3.5 minutes. It is so dark as to be almost black. I did do a second infusion of 1/2 the water for about 5 min. and that was...

Brews a clear golden color, less opaque than most Sencha. Aroma seaweedy and vegetal, and only slightly grassy. Relatively smooth flavor, with a little astringency and bitterness. Overall this is a very typical sencha. Nothing about it stands out.
