Picture of Hot Chocolate

Hot Chocolate from DAVIDsTEA

Style: Flavored Pu-erh – Region: Blend

55 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 24th, 2018

I’ve always thought of chocolate tea as a bit of a conundrum. While I love chocolate, and I love tea, in almost every case attempting to blend the two leaves you with little more than a watered-down cup of hot chocolate. Call me crazy, but hot chocolate is supposed to be rich and creamy, and somehow nobody ever seems...

Candy Cane Crush from DAVIDsTEA

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 24th, 2018

At first blush, Candy Cane Crush is definitively festive! With candy cane pieces and snowflake sprinkles mixed into the tea, it has the appearance of being quite literally made for the holiday season. But does it taste festive? DAVIDsTEA bills it as a sweet, icy-cool peppermint black tea, so candy canes do seem to be w...

Cardamom French Toast from DAVIDsTEA

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 24th, 2018

DAVIDsTEA claims they take their french toast very seriously. In my opinion, they’re right! When I first saw that they had a french toast tea, I couldn’t imagine it tasting anything like one of my favorite breakfasts. Boy was I wrong! The Cardamom French Toast tea is rich, creamy, and tastes just like a buttery sli...

Zest Wishes from DAVIDsTEA

Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Blend

45 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 24th, 2018

This is a decent tea that tastes just like I expected it to. It’s billed as a zesty blend of “warm cinnamon, cardamom and zesty orange peel,” and they aren’t wrong. The cinnamon and cardamom are well-balanced and rich, and the orange peel provides a decent kick to go along with the lightly caffeinated oolong te...

Moroccan Mint from Davidsons Tea

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: ?????

45 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 24th, 2018

Much like clove, mint is sort of a touchy one for me. I've indicated as much in the past, but most mint teas don't seem to end up tasting right in my book. That said, Moroccan Mint does an excellent job of blending a simple green tea with a touch of mint. The one thing I feel is lacking in this tea is the aroma. While ...

Moringa Ginger from Miracle Tree

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon

50 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 24th, 2018

I'll admit, I had never heard of Moringa when I received this tea, and had to do a bit of research to understand what I was drinking. Moringa, or more specifically Moringa Oleifera, is a plant which is known to have antifungal, antiviral, antidepressant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, it contains a rid...

Puerh Jam Session from Good Earth Teas

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 7th, 2018

This is a surprisingly complex tea. Good Earth bills it as a "zesty and fruity marmalade flavor" but I'm not sure I entirely agree. It does taste like marmalade, but it's not what I would call "zesty". Initially, it's predominantly citrus and could be considered zesty, but it quickly mellows to a more balanced, smooth ...

Apricot Ginger Tango from Good Earth Teas

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

65 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 7th, 2018

I've said before that ginger tea can be a bit overpowering at times. In this case, it's one of the best blended ginger teas I've found to date. The ginger is there, but not overpowering. The apricot is full-flavored but not overly fruity. All in all, it's a very well-balanced tea that is a pleasure to drink.

Geisha Getaway from T2 Tea

Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: ?????

50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 1st, 2018

I'm not really sold on this one. T2 markets it as "holiday in a bag" and, to a point, they're right. It definitely reminds me of a beach, but it's the wrong part of the beach. Maybe it's just me, but all I can smell from this tea is sunscreen. The flavor is there, it's a mild coconut/pineapple blend, but it seems off t...

Turmeric Chai from Good Earth Teas

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????

55 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 21st, 2018

It's no secret I love Chai, and this one is no different. The turmeric is subtle, not overpowering as it tends to be, but the blend gives this tea a distinct earthy flavor. It's not as spicy as many similar blends, but comes across as a very smooth, flavorful tea. It's not my favorite chai, but it is one I will definit...

I'm going to call this a "temporary" review. While I'm going to endeavor to be accurate, I actually drank this tea while in the middle of a VERY long work day, and forgot to do the review on the spot. As such, I'm reviewing based on a memory from almost a day ago. The likelihood is that I will be updating this review o...

My review of the Sweet & Spicy tea from Good Earth prompted me to do a little more digging on what they had available that ISN'T available in my local grocery. I found them to have a decent variety of unique teas, and this one in particular caught my eye. As such, I ended up purchasing what they call the Get Wild sampl...

Blackberry Black Tea from Solstice Tea Traders

Oct. 18th, 2018

I'm a big fan of berry... anything, so I was enthusiastic about a chance to try a few of the berry teas from Solstice, particularly after experiencing some of their other black teas. Blackberry was a good choice for them, and this tea shines in its aroma. It is a prominent blackberry aroma, and quite pleasant.

Vanilla Black Tea from Solstice Tea Traders

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 18th, 2018

Straight vanilla black teas are a bit hard to come by. The majority of the time, the vanilla is blended with some other flavor and, when it isn't, it usually comes across tasting more like a cheap vanilla extract than true vanilla. Thankfully, this isn't the case for Solstice Tea's attempt.

The aroma isn't overwhelm...

Oct. 16th, 2018

After reading a plethora of good reviews, I decided to order a few samples from Solstice Tea Traders. Gold Rush was my first test subject. Others have indicated, and I would agree, that this tea is best served hot. When it cools, it loses something both in flavor and aroma.

The aroma is subtle to begin with. It's a ...

Oct. 16th, 2018

As far as breakfast teas go, I've always been a fan of Earl Grey. That said, I do have my favorites and many companies don't seem to do Earl Grey justice. While this isn't my favorite, it is an excellent option. It's smooth but with a smoky/sweet flavor, not unexpected from a Darjeeling tea. This particular tea gets al...

The flavor of this tea reminded me of something from my first sip, but what eluded me for quite a while. This one might take a little explanation. I know I had no clue what I was looking at when I first found it. If you don't already know, yaupon is a type of tea made from the yaupon holly, or Ilex vomitoria. Yaupon has a long heritage, particularly in the southwest United States. Oct. 9th, 2018

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this tea, but it isn't what I expected. I did expect a floral aroma, and I got one. It smells like jasmine, but not JUST jasmine. It almost seems like a jasmine/dandelion blend to me. Similarly, the flavor isn't a true jasmine, and certainly isn't what I expect from a green tea. I...

I'll admit that I'm new to "wellness" teas, and holy basil in particular. That said, this tea does provide a unique experience. I can't really say much about the aroma... it's herbal for sure, but I can't really place what it reminds me of. The flavor isn't what I expected at all. It does taste like what I'd expect fro...

I'm not really an impartial reviewer when it comes to salted caramel... anything, unfortunately. However, I received a sample of the Stash Salted Carame...

Decaf Vanilla Chai from Stash Tea

Oct. 8th, 2018

While I normally love chai, this one fell short in my book. I've read reviews from others who say they found it to be a predominantly vanilla flavor with a touch of chai spice... I disagree. To me, the aroma seems watered down, and the flavor is almost nutty. I hardly taste the chai at all, but it's more reminiscent of...

Chocolate Mint from Stash Tea

Oct. 8th, 2018

I've found most chocolate teas to be a bit off. Usually, they don't taste like chocolate at all, and end up feeling arbitrary. This one actually does fairly well, however, and pulls off a flavor that is reminiscent of an Andes mint. The aroma is of chocolate, though not overwhelming or unique in any way, but the flavor...

I've been looking for a ginger tea that wasn't overwhelming for quite a while. This one, Stash knocked out of the park! The aroma is ginger and peach, go figure, and the flavor is a wonderful peach base with subtle ginger notes that blend together beautifully without being overpowering. My favorite to date from Stash!

To date, I’ve never found a chai I didn’t like, and this one was no different. Most chai is smooth, but this one seemed to go above and beyond; it was like drinking silk. It’s a wonderful blend of a bright flavor with touches of cinnamon and ginger. Cinnamon and chai isn’t a new idea, but the ginger was a wel...
