Black Tea from Ten Ren Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: ?????33 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 27th, 2009
I think this tea does not stack up to the quality of Ten Ren's other teabag teas; it makes me wonder if it's included only as an afterthought, as Ten Ren does not seem to specialize in black teas. Aroma is nondescript, generic, lacking complexity. If you want a darker tea from Ten Ren, I'd recommend a darker oolong.

Aroma is candy-like and flavor is very smooth. While this pales in comparison to brewing quality black tea together with fresh spearmint, it's enjoyable.
The black tea isn't the best quality and has only a weak aroma, but the spearmint is quite aromatic. There's no bitterness or astringency, even if you let it bre...
Pear White Tea (Formerly White Pear) from Revolution Tea
Style: Fruit White Tea – Region: ?????57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 27th, 2009
This was surprisingly strong for a white tea. I brewed it for 4 minutes using a little over a cup with the teabag, and it was too strong. I recommend either brewing for a shorter time or using the teabag to brew two or more cups at once. This tea is quite good for multiple infusions; the pear comes out more in later...

This tea is much too sour for me; although I enjoy the aroma, I find it gets unpleasantly sour by the end of the cup. This tea becomes much more drinkable, in my opinion, if you use it as a 1-to-2 ingredient with other less sour teas to make a pitcher of iced tea.

A typical and decent chamomile tea. Nothing really stands out...there's a little bit of the muted unpleasant aftertaste, and a hint of fruitiness in the aroma, a little bit of a straw-like flavor. Soothing. Not the best chamomile I've tried but certainly not the worst. Reasonably priced.

I absolutely loved this herbal tea. The aroma combined light and sweet marzipan-like tones with more robust earthy and nutty qualities. The cup was naturally sweet and very smooth. The ingredients were balanced just how I like; I can't suggest anything I would change about this blend.
I was very disappointed when...
Tension Tamer from Celestial Seasonings
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: ?????73 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5

I drink this tea a lot when I get sick because it makes me feel better. The flavor is a bit of an acquired taste but I have grown quite fond of it. The ginseng is dominant in the aroma and imparts a bitterness and an earthy quality which blends well with the ginger. The peppermint and lemon lightens this one somewha...

Very fruity aroma; something about the aroma seemed a bit overdone and somewhat unnatural. Overall though, it was not bad. The fruit dominates the aroma, however...I had little sense of what kind of white and green tea was used as a base--it was weak and not very present. The flavor is smooth but on the weak side. ...

Initial aroma is mostly of peach if you brew this tea briefly, but as you brew it longer the ginger comes out much more strongly; the ginger aroma stays in the cup. Smooth, fresh tasting...the ginger is very noticeable, especially if you brew it for a long time. I enjoyed this one very much; it has a very different c...

Complex aroma; has a floral fragrance, suggestive of Jasmine. Crisp, clean, and light, but surprisingly flavorful. Remarkably easy to brew; better with slightly lower temperature water, but does not scald as easily as other green or white teas. Outstanding for a teabag tea!

I just tried this tea and really loved the subtle lemon flavor, and I found it more smooth than bitter for a green tea.

To be fair I'm just not that into Pouchong tea... the melon-esque taste just doesn't do it for me. (I tend to refer to it as The Lamer Chinese Restaurant Tea in comparison to Pu-Erh.)
I found that TenRen's version leans to the slightly bitter side as well. Overall just an OK tea... it's nice, but not exciting.

The first time I had this tea I absolutely loved it. It's a great minty yet subtle fruity mix that smelled fantastic and tasted pretty good.
Yet, over the years this tea hasn't really held up for me... it's pretty expensive for one, it's tough to brew it without it going bitter, and I just eventually grew tired of th...
Pu-Erh Whole Leaf from Ten Ren Tea
Style: Pu-erh Tea – Region: ?????83 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 23rd, 2009
I really adore Pu-Erh tea and this is one of the most fantastic brands I've found in teabag form. It has a dark, rich colour and a smooth flavor- never gets bitter, effective but not overdone caffeine. Cheap enough to keep coming back to. Overall a solid choice.

This tea sounded so fantastic to me I just had to try it, and predictably it was a bit of a let down. (To be fair- I might have been expecting it to taste more like vanilla caramel coffee...)
It smells and sounds fantastic, but the taste is lack luster and forgettable. There are much better flavored teas out there to...
Lemon and Ginger from Twinings

This tea makes a nice teabag substitute for the loose lemon-ginger tea I used to buy from the co-op grocery store. It's good by itself, but I also recommend trying it with hot orange juice added.

This has always been my favorite of Bigelow's herbal teas. I don't find it particularly sleep-inducing; it's soothing but has some bite to it and tends to make me feel perky even though it doesn't contain caffeine.
The aroma is surprisingly nuanced; the peppermint and chamomile are the dominant tones, but the other...
Orange Dulce from Mighty Leaf Tea

I am not a fan of this tea. It's a black tea, supposedly also with some green tea in it, but I don't taste much of the tea. The aroma is dominated by vanilla and some other spices. The different aromas do not blend well: some are delicate, others are heavy.
I also tried making iced tea from this brew. In this ca...
Wooloong Tea (Oolong Tea) from Roland
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: ?????80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5

This was a surprise; I picked it up at a Korean store in Portland, ME; 6 oz. for $6. The leaves are dark brown and tightly rolled, and unfurl greatly upon brewing. Although some of the leaves are broken, many of them are whole and the pieces of leaf are quite large.
This tea can be brewed many different ways. Rol...
