Typhoo Tea from Typhoo
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 21st, 2012
Although not my favourite brew, Typhoo has, according to my late mother, been enjoyed in my family since the 1920's. I perhaps first tasted it in the early 1950's as a young boy, and, as far as I remember, it was never usurped by any other tea in that household. It was, according to my mother, one of the few teas that ...

My wife tells me that this tea reminds her of the best of the teas from her father's shop in Canada. An elegant yet rich afternoon tea; my choice when friends drop in or after dinner. Splash of milk is all this beauty needs. Way above an average tea.

This was my go to afternoon tea until I tasted the Yorkshire Gold. Lovely, intriguing aromas and rich body. Great with a splash of milk. N.B.: This tea MUST be kept in an airtight container as it fades away very quickly when left in the box.

Simply put, this is the finest Earl Grey I've yet to try. Perfect balance of bergamot with the rich tea used. Fine aroma, flavor and finish.

A few years ago, this was a very good tea. Just tried the current release. Bleh! An overly herbacious black tea overwhelms the rest of the cup.

I typically do not care much for western styles of black tea, but this Earl Grey is pretty good. The bergamot may seem a bit overpowering, but actually it's a fairly balanced tea. It is probably an acquired taste, and is good for people who want a truly strong and dark black tea.
When I got this tea initially, I did...
Awake English Breakfast Filterbag from Tazo Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend43 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5

Opaque and dark black tea with a bit of smoothness. It has some unique qualities and is not the typical black tea, but it lacks any real complexity or richness. Quite plain, really.

Since I usually drink straight black tea I wanted to be a little adventurous and tried Passion, but was not satisfied.
The rich red color of this tea intrigued me, but its fruity flavor was far too strong. Barely steeped for a minute, my cup was already overwhelming.
Anjou Pear-adise Oolong Tea from Teavana
Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Blend37 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5

I'm sorry, but I really don't see the pear flavor in this. The oolong quality is also obviously low and crumbly.

Nutty Almond Cream from Tiesta Tea
Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5

Completely unlike any other herbal tea I've tried. Not my type of blend, but very high-quality for what it is, and I can imagine others might love it.
Brews a bright red, semi-opaque cup with oil droplets on top. Aroma suggestive of a jam-filled pastry: nutty, bready, suggestive of sweetness and cooked apples. Fl...
Chestnut Tea from Adagio Teas
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 23rd, 2012
This tea had the most buttery and sugary and nutty aroma. These were the things that popped into my head: burnt sugar. Creme Brule. Multi-grain pancakes (smothered in butter and warm syrup, of course). Notice how none of those say “chestnut”? That's because I've never had a chestnut, so I can't say whether or not t...

I love this tea. Definitely my favourite spiced, bagged tea. It reminds me of a chai but isn't as strong as some I've tried, which is perfect for me. It's cinnamony and tastes like Christmas.

The smell was barely existent but the taste is strong and filled with delightful Cinnamon. Christmas tea is really just a Chai Tea, but I love Chai so this is perfect. It’s ironic but recently, after trying some Chais, almost all dissappoint. I first found Chai years ago in teabag form and swooned. I have since tried...

The tea is extremely mild flavored. A basic black tea with a little flavor added in. Good for a quick pinch but nothing worth investing in. Similar - to me - to heating up a tea bag from the grocery store.

This was my favorite from the little wooden gift set from the company. My son and I devoured these bags first. Found the taste delightful and strong. I have to say that, especially for a plain black tea, I find this divine. I’ve purchased a few boxes and it’s a staple go-to tea for a quick cup of tea that’s bold and refreshing when I have little time. I do drink it with sugar (1 tsp.) to enhance the flavor. Deep and rich, careful not to oversteep. My son enjoy...

Sinusoidal said that this tea is similar to Tazo Passion; I agree!
Like Tazo Passion, this blend has added citric acid, something I strongly dislike because it makes the tea too sour for me after brewing it regularly. You can run it under cold water for about 15 seconds to remove most of this, but this also removes...
Cinnamon Stick® Black Tea from Bigelow Tea

I don't like many mass produced teas, and Bigelow's over packaging is a major turn off, but I must say I do find myself drinking this quite a bit. Cinnamon-y but not too strong, I take it with whole milk and sugar.

You can find this in a bag or loose leaf in the bulk tea section of your favorite natural foods store (eg Rainbow Grocery in SF) or on the RoT website. I prefer the more environmentally friendly and IMO better tasting loose leaf.

The smell will win you over to try this type of tea. Its smells of a slight butterscotch buttery caramel w/ a dark chocolate twist. Its beautiful in color and personality when you pour it into the cup and its not all the expensive either. $10 for 2 ounces in my opinion they're giving it away..... enjoy
