African Sunset from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 14th, 2009
The lemongrass is very present, at times dominating the rooibos in the aroma. Also, the lemongrass adds a sharpness and crispness that changes the character of this tea--it is not at all smooth the way rooibos on its own is. I like it though; it's a bit of a surprise but I think it's a welcome one. I think they've u...

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: Blend33 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 13th, 2009
Very fruity, dominated by the blackcurrant. Lacking complexity in the aroma. No bitterness...but very sour, too sour for me. I didn't really notice the ginseng or vanilla. I much prefer Twining's blackcurrant-flavored black tea.

Style: Fruit Green Tea – Region: Blend57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5

Aroma sweet-suggesting, slightly fruity but not overly so. The tea and berries seem to blend very well, and in spite of the addition of "natural tropical flavors" this doesn't have a particularly artificial taste. Smooth but tangy. A lot of dust gets through the teabag and sinks to the bottom of the cup, but this do...

Style: Fruit Black Tea – Region: Blend67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

I really like this tea. Very peachy with a hint of ginger and only a weak presence of black tea--but that's typical for a decaf tea. While I don't particularly like the black tea, the ginger is noticeable, which I like, and I tend to like the quality of the peach aroma...it's strong and fruity while seeming fairly na...

Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend27 / 100 Aroma: 1/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5

An artificial-seeming green apple aroma dominates this tea...there's only a hint of everything else. I had trouble enjoying this one; it was totally unbalanced and seemed unnatural.

Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5

These teabags seem to be meant for more than one cup. The tea brews very rapidly and is very strong. It wasn't terribly complex; it had a muted quality...very bitter aftertaste but initial taste was a bit smoother. Very tannic; do not let this steep too long; a very brief (1 min.) infusion I find is best. Even then...

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Blend40 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5

This tea is too much like a regular spiced black tea with green tea substituted. But black and green teas have a very different character, so I think different proportions of spices are needed. The result in this case is a tea that does not blend well.
The cinnamon totally overpowers the tea and the other spices i...
Earl Grey from Bigelow Tea
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 27th, 2009
A decent Earl Grey in teabags. Very fresh tasting, with a bold beragmot presence. The black tea is strong but a bit generic. Fairly bitter, with some astringency; it's possible to brew this too long.
I strongly prefer this to Twinings.
Blackcurrant Breeze Black Tea (formerly Blackcurrant) from Twinings
Style: Fruit Black Tea – Region: Blend77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 27th, 2009
I find the bold, almost pungent aroma of blackcurrants quite enjoyable in this tea...it's a deep, dark sort of fruitiness that blends very well with the black tea. The tea in this blend is nondescript and is dominated by the blackcurrant, but that's ok with me! This is a peculiar fruit blend but I enjoy it very much;...

Style: Pure Chamomile Tea – Region: Blend57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5

Another typical chamomile tea; nothing to get excited about. I think this tea is a little more floral but less fruity than some. There's a little bit of the unpleasant muted sourness that plagues some chamomile teas. Enjoyable, but I've had better. Among celestial seanonings teas I much prefer the blends.

This tea is on the margins of Celestial Seasoning teas that I enjoy...it has too much cinnamon for my taste; I think the clove blends much better with the orange than the cinnamon does. It's also a tad too sour for my tastes...although again it's just a bit out of my comfort zone. This is one of those teas that I wil...

This is one of my favorite Celestial Seasonings teas; the spearmint and chamomile go so well together, and dominate the aroma, although the other ingredients have a presence too. I find this tea to be among the most soothing of the commercial teas that are marketed as "bedtime" herbal blends.
Nowadays though, I str...
Premium Black Tea - Pure Mint from Twinings
Style: Black Tea with Mint – Region: Blend43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5

Strong peppermint aroma, dominating the other aromas; only a weak aroma of black tea and spearmint. An unpleasant sourness. Definitely not among my favorite black tea / mint blends.

This blend is predominately chamomile with only a hint of other herbs, and it is absolutely exquisite!
The aroma is mostly of light, fruity chamomile. A hint of mint comes out in the aftertaste; the muted bitter aftertaste that characterizes some chamomile teas is completely absent...in its place is a honey-like sw...
Earl Grey from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 8th, 2009
I am not terribly impressed with this Earl Grey; it's very average for this style. The black tea aroma is a bit generic; there's a bit too much astringency and bitterness relative to the strength of the aroma. The bergamot aroma is also fairly mild.
Given the very high price of this tea, and the higher quality of ...
Green Tea Tropical from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: Flavored Green Tea – Region: Blend50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Aug. 29th, 2009
Not bitter at all, and the fruitiness outweighs any sort of tea aroma. I would prefer a stronger presence of the green tea relative to the fruit, but I still enjoy it, however. This is well-executed for a fruit-flavored green tea.
My only complaint is the price tag!
Organic Green Tea from Revolution Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: Blend73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 29th, 2009
This blended green tea has a surprisingly distinct character. It has strong grassy tones, without the sharpness of the sencha and the acidity of the chun mee. Moderately bitter. I found this to be a very enjoyable green tea. It is quite pricey, although the price is on par with other brands selling pyramid sachets ...
