Gold Blend from Barry's Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend90 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 19th, 2012
As tea in a tea bag goes, this is very good stuff. The flavor is distinctive and comforting. I think I could easily pick this one out in a blind tasting with other Irish/Brittish brands. A good tea to have on hand.

After being really impressed with the first four teas I had sampled from Arbor Teas a while back, I recommended them to a friend, who bought this tea from them. He was very impressed with the Gyokuro he bought, but he gave me this one because he said he didn't like it and it didn't taste like long jing.
I think if ...
Jade Cloud (aka Green Jade) from Rishi Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: Hubei, China67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 17th, 2012
I just tried the bagged version of this tea and was pretty pleased. Overall I liked the tea and thought that it was refreshing, like a typical green. I would have it again if offered to me, but I probably wouldn't buy it on my own. I feel that I can buy the same quality bagged tea for less - I would like to try the ...

This tea has a rich, smoky aroma. The flavor is crisp. I really like it. It's a little bitter if brewed too long. I added cream and sugar.

I came across this randomly at an Chinese supermarket in Philadelphia, and like the last reviewer, I think it's one of the better bargains I've ever run across. I've been using it as a nice 'everyday' sort of green tea for a while now. The large six ounce tin I bought for about four dollars is still going strong.

Matcha Infused Sencha from Aiya
Style: Sencha – Region: Japan70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Dec. 12th, 2012
This is a totally different beast, in my opinion, from the matcha-infused Genmaicha from the same company, and was surprisingly different from their premium sencha as well.
Rich, nutty aroma, almost grainy or oatmeal-like. Somewhat dusty finish, but with a hint of floral tones like I have encountered in some pan-fi...
Premium Gyokuro from Aiya
Style: Gyokuro – Region: Japan80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 2/5
Dec. 6th, 2012
I had the opportunity to sample this and Harney and Sons' Heavenly Gyokuro side-by-side. The two teas are comparable in price, and are both top-notch teas, yet they were remarkably different! It's hard for me to say which one I preferred.
The dry leaf of this tea has an aroma peculiarly reminiscent of an airplane ...

Dec. 5th, 2012
I only had one teabag to play with, and I think I brewed it badly. I followed the instruction on the packet to brew it for five minutes. It didn't say what temperature to use, so I guessed 175F or so, which I think was a mistake.
Aroma-wise, the leaves were pleasantly citrusy, but once I brewed it, the aroma turned ...
Wild Snow Sprout Tea from Wild Tea Qi
Style: Green Tea – Region: Yunnan, China93 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 5th, 2012
This tea was surprising, and delicious.
The biggest surprise was unusual aroma, and the disconnect between that aroma and the taste. I should say: for me, the smell of tea is a thing to savor, as much a part of the experience as drinking it. Unless you buy something after drinking a sample, the smell is probably yo...

I had just a sample of this one, the version that comes in a teabag, not loose. So I only got to experiment with making it one way, rather than brewing it a couple different ways to see what changes.
That said, I steeped it exactly according to the instructions on the package, and it came out really nicely. The aro...
Yorkshire Gold Leaf Tea (Loose) from Yorkshire Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 2nd, 2012
After being relatively impressed with Yorkshire Tea's tea bags, I was let down when I tried their loose-leaf. It tasted really similar, which was good, but it was not markedly better!
The aroma is rich and malty, and there is a faint hint of wintergreen in the aroma as well. Smoother than average for a tea of this...
Formosa Oolong (Oolong #8) from Adagio Teas
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa73 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 2nd, 2012
The aroma of this tea is sweet with notes of loam, tobacco, raisins, old flowers (think orchids that are not rotten but are certainly on their last legs, smells heady and a little dead) and honey. There is a nice finishing note of smoke which gives this tea a real autumnal feel to it.
Tasting the tea, in a way it is...
Yunnan Gold (Golden Yunnan) from Adagio Teas
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

The aroma is very light and floral and the taste matches! I find the taste to be a mix of floral and citrus with a very mild tea flavor. Very subtle and enjoyable!
I only got a sample if this tea but definitely plan on getting more from Agagio as it might be my favorite of their teas
Wild Snow Sprout Tea from Wild Tea Qi
Style: Green Tea – Region: Yunnan, China87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 29th, 2012
This tea is completely unlike anything else I've tried. It has a lot going on in the aroma, and almost defies description.
I notice a smoky quality, almost like a hint of that campfire smoke of Lapsang souchong, paired with a hint of camphor, like in raw Pu-erh. But upon drinking, it is more floral and honey-like,...
Tung Ting from Teas Etc
Style: Jade Oolong – Region: Taiwan / Formosa93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

Very complex. Light, but bold.
Aroma is simultaneously floral and herbal. Strong, almost orchid-like fragrances emerge and vanish from an herbaceous background.
Even when unsweetened, it tastes like a bit of honey has been added.
This is one of the best examples of this tea that I've seen in this price range...

was given a tin of this as a gift by a friend who knows my tea-drinking habits very well ;) the tin has been empty for quite a long time now (it's too cute to toss out) and it still smells of tea. absolutely the best irish breakfast i have ever tried. was very sorry to see it go!

smells like heaven. i have tried my share of Irish Breakfasts, it's one of my favorite kinds of tea. this is up there with the best. it's hard to stop at one cup, even on days when i've sworn to myself to tone down the caffiene! more than satisfies the craving i often have for a nice, solid cup of tea.

I don't like this tea as much as the white peony that I usually drink (Prince of Peace) because it tastes greener, and I don't like green tea. It's also more expensive. I added cream and sugar.

Rich full body black tea low in tannins and found the tea needed very little sugar on its own. Holds well if cream is added without being watery and flavorless. I found it is delicious paired with Teavana Aztec Fire or Caramel Almond Biscotti

Wiry leaf has a good amount of golden tip. I was surprised by the dark color of the liquor produced by these light golden leaves. The picture Harney provided looks a bit deceptive--I found it brews much darker.
Aroma is intensely cocoa-ey and chocolatey. Almost tastes like a cup of unsweetened cocoa. Reminiscent...

A quite balanced black tea with a dark, almost slightly musty and round flavour. Aroma is mildly earthy and sweet. A good pick-up in the morning or after lunch, but a bit too strong for drinking in the evening.

I thought this tea was a good basic black, and it is pretty inexpensive too! I drank it straight without cream or sugar and didn't find it too strong (although I do like a good cup of strong black tea so my tastes may be different from some!). I'd be more apt to keep this tea around as a basic black over Lipton, and ...
