White Whisper Tea from Royal Tea of Kenya

Style: Silver Needle – Region: Kenya

Nov. 11th, 2011

This was the first white tea I have sampled not only from Kenya, but from any African country. I was eager to try it, and I was not disappointed.

The dry leaf of this tea looks a lot like silver needle white teas, consisting exclusively out of buds / tips. However, the brewed cup was darker in color, and the flavo...

Black Tea PF1 (Pekoe Fannings 1) from Chim Chim Tea

Style: Black Tea – Region: Kericho, Kenya

This tea is okay. It has a sort of weird sweet vegetal taste to it. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to prepare it, because it's so fine that it goes through the strainer, and I have bits of leaf in my cup.

Kenyan Black Tea - Loose Tea from Ajiri Tea

Style: Black Tea – Region: Kisii, Kenya

This tea was remarkably high-quality for the fact that it is finely broken, mechanically-processed CTC tea. It was also incredibly interesting!

Aroma is grainy, slightly malty, and very pleasing. Has somewhat of a high-grown character, combined with malty characteristics. Rather distinct. I can see how others sa...

Upton sent this tea to me with my large order as a sample. They were spot on for finding me something greatly to my liking. Bold and full of flavor for a black tea, this Golden Kenya tea stands up to breakfast and offers complexity for afternoon teatime. This tea will be in my next order.

The dry leaf of this tea is straight and thin, giving it a twiggy appearance; it has a light, fruity aroma.

Brewed, this tea is slightly Keemun-like, but with less of the earthy qualities, and a much stronger flavor. It also has some honey-like qualities reminiscent of some greener oolongs, which are hard to notice...

A mild, smooth tea that I prefer steeping for a longer time (around 5 minutes). Aroma is hard to describe, and I am not crazy about it, it has a sort of muted creaminess, but not in a light way. There's a notable absence of most of the tones that characterize black tea, inculding ones from Kenya. The flavor is very ...

Dry leaf has a sweet, pleasing aroma.

Brewing as instructed, this tea is very mild, with a smooth flavor and a clear quality. There are mild, dried fruit tones, a bit like a Keemun, but this tea is less earthy than Keemun. Some of the light, rice-like qualities common in some Ceylon teas. Aftertaste is clean. Fl...

Surprisingly interesting aroma of the dry leaf....fruity but in a way distinct from any other sort of black tea.

Brewed cup is very complex: initially malty and very fruity, with a strong fennel aroma. Not much bite up-front, but there is a strong but pleasing bitterness, and a very bold peppery finish like a Yunna...

This is a tasty but basic black tea, with a great cause. The leaves are tiny, dark, and pellet-like. Not what I was expecting, but I didn't want to judge on just the leaf appearance alone. The leaves have a lovely sweet cocoa scent.

after steeping, the liquor tastes of whole wheat toast, and dark chocolate. It is a...

Mild pungent aroma. Smooth flavor.
Certainly an "all day" tea choice.
Excellent price.
When I first spotted this tea, I was leery.
My other encounters with African grown teas have been disappointing. This one is the best so far.

This is a really, really nice tea. At first I was leery - I've had some awful stuff from Kenya, but I've also had some good. This is a good straightforward black, not many nuances, but it is fine tasting. And all the profits go to provide schools for orphans in their section of Kenya. It is CTC or fannings grade, s...

Dry, there is very little scent to this tea, but as it brews it smells almost like chocolate, almost like black cherries. I found it to be quite smooth, with a mild, pleasant sweet note, that ends with some briskness

Dark but surprisingly smooth cup...not much bitterness and astringency, and clean aftertaste. The aroma is complex and interesting but very hard to put into words...slightly more vegetal than typical for a black tea. It's hard for me to know exactly what to compare it to...it tastes more like a Yunnan black tea than ...
