appearance: a standard looking black tea with bits of blue and white plant matter mixed in ["we added bits of vanilla bean and sunflower petals"].

India Breakfast Tulsi Tea from Organic India

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: India

70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 29th, 2010

This tea is smooth and balanced and the way it makes you feel is smooth and balanced as well. It's a bit like a masal chai/spiced tea since the tulsi imparts clove and other spicy aromas. The tulsi is strong enough that I can't really say all that much about the quality of the tea, but whatever tea is used blends wel...

Chai (formerly Indian Spiced Chai) from Twinings

Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: ?????

43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 28th, 2010

The package recommends to brew for 4-6 minutes...I brewed for four. The black tea in this teabag was exceptionally weak--the cup was a clear reddish color, and I brewed with only about 6oz. of water. However, the lack of a bold black tea presence was made up for by a strong aroma of spice.

There are different spic...

Apr. 25th, 2010

In my opinion this is the best among Bigelow's flavored teas, although my favorite from Bigelow is one of their herbals--sweet dreams.

It's funny, I tend not to like orange spice teas, but I like this one. It's balanced: none of the aromas overpower the others. There's a nice amount of strength and bitterness, but...

This was a gift for my birthday recently, it is a tea I brew for guests quite often. It is fruity, the slight sourness is offset by slight sweetness. I feel this is a light tea that I enjoy during the day. It is a good balance between being light and strong tea.

This is a good 'railroad' tea (add milk and sugar) if you don't want to go to the trouble of making your own or don't keep a variety of whole spices. Rather pricey though. Sugar or honey brings out the spice flavor.

Sitting down to review a couple of teas from Kalahari Tea, one from their Energy Tea line and the other from their Chocolatte Red (Rooibos) line. Both teas are bagged but I’m open minded and I have had high quality teas that happened to be prebagged in the past (usually tear them open so I can watch the leaves dance ...

47 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 20th, 2010

Very strongly aromatic...aroma is sweet, very floral but less perfumey than some Jasmines. There's almost a hint of wintergreen in the aroma. It's also fairly vegetal and a bit fishy. The aroma strikes me as a bit strange and has some unpleasant characteristics to it.

Very smooth flavor, sweet, with absolutely no...

Earl Grey Tea Bags from Taylors of Harrogate

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 18th, 2010

This is among the better Earl Greys I've had from a tea bag. Strong, very bitter, but not too tannic (especially if you use a briefer brewing). The bold bergamot presence is balanced by an aromatic black tea. I would not call this tea "light and elegant"--I think this is a stronger tea (but I used one teabag for cup...

Vanilla Chai Tea - Black Tea - Decaffeinated from Good Earth Teas

Style: Vanilla Chai – Region: Blend

37 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 16th, 2010

Aroma is initially mostly of cinnamon...but upon drinking the tea, an overly artificial vanilla presence kicks in.

The best thing about this tea is that it has a bold black tea presence and, given that it's in a teabag and is decaffeinated, I was surprised at the strength and quality of the black tea. The flavor of...

This tea has the characteristic qualities of lemon myrtle dominating the aroma...even though tea is the main ingredient, the tea presence is notably weaker. The cup is light in color and slightly opaque. There's a fair amount of astringency.

Interesting, and drinkable, but I would prefer a bolder presence of white...

China Jasmine Green Tea from Foojoy

53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 12th, 2010

This was acceptable, but I was disappointed with the flavor and weakness of the aroma compared to Foojoy's other teabag teas that I've tried. The value was o.k., but the flavor could have been better. I agree with Alex's review, which recommends a longer brewing time.

43 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 12th, 2010

Flat, dry aroma, mostly of straw and leaf...little fruity lemon aroma and more of the muted straw-like quality of the lemongrass. Very bitter. Crisp but without being fresh or cooling as I had hoped from this tea. I also found the tea to be weak in aroma.

This was disappointing, both on its own and relative to wh...

Weak Jasmine aroma, even relative to other teabag Jasmine teas. Flavor is sweet, gentle, with almost no bitterness and with only a hint of sourness. Aroma is honeylike, like a pouchong, but weak and not terribly interesting.

This tea scalds very easily if brewed with water that is too hot. Be sure to use water we...

Fairly bitter; almost tastes like it contains lemongrass but it's not listed on the ingredient list. Not floral, in spite of the flowers--the marigold imparts a warm but somewhat heavy quality. Citrusy, but in a slightly harsh, citronella-like way rather than a fruity way. Pleasantly astringent.

More than a bit m...

I love this tea. Se Chung is absolutely my favorite style of oolong, and my favorite Se Chung is Upton's ZO10, so I was eagerly anticipating this one, and I was pleased to find a rich, complex tea that added a completely new element to the mix. I can't say whether I prefer this or the unscented tea more. They're ver...

Brews a dark golden-orange, dark for a green tea. Aroma is flat and subdued; there's not even a hint of floral quality. Surprisingly full-bodied, however, for a decaffeinated tea. More flavorful than aromatic.

I've always found green tea to be a little astringent but I love the way the nutty/charred flavor of the toasted rice cuts through the earthiness of the green tea. There's a faint taste of burning matches, a little iron, grass. Good stuff.

Mar. 25th, 2010

Certainly one of the better bagged teas I've tried and one I really enjoyed.

The fruit taste can get a little strong if the tea is steeped more than about 4 minutes, i've found that 3-4 minutes with hotter water is just about perfect.

Nice aroma, and well balanced, the fruit does not overpower the darjeeling fl...

Ginger Peach from Republic of Tea

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????

77 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 25th, 2010

I usually hate fruit teas, and to be honest, I'm not too fond of the fruitiness in this. Somehow, though, the peach and ginger flavors balance each other nicely, and the assertive base of black tea still comes through. I associate this tea with afternoons, the kind when you need a jolt. Also smells great.
