PG Tips Pyramid bags from PG Tips

Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend

63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 10th, 2013

Good old PG Tips, an oldie but a goodie. There's nothing flowery and wishy-washy about this "builders brew". This is everything you would expect from a stereotypical British cuppa. Very quick brewing, good malty aroma and a pleasant flavour. Best brewed in a mug and enjoyed with the biscuit tin beside you.

Black Tea from Lipton Tea

27 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 9th, 2013

This is an absolute shocker and I'm quite sure one of the reasons tea has never taken off in the States and on the continent. Probably the most widdly tasting tea widely available. You could get exactly the same effect by throwing the grass clippings from your lawnmower into a bucket of water.

If anyone offers you t...

English Breakfast from Twinings

Style: English Breakfast – Region: ?????

50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 9th, 2013

To be honest this really doesn't do a lot for me and sadly it's the usual offering in cafes and teashops here if you ask for an English Breakfast. Never brews up strong enough for my tastes, and it's a fairly insipid flavour. To be honest, It won't offend but it's not going to blow your socks off and wow you either. I ...

Original / Classic from Bell

Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Mar. 9th, 2013

Firstly I make no apologies for my review of this tea as to be honest nostalgia and rose tinted glasses no doubt colour it. Being a Kiwi, Bell tea holds a special place in my memory, and it was the usual tea brewed up for breakfast, morning and afternoon teas, and whenever a cuppa was required. Saying that it really is...

Scottish Breakfast Tea Bags from Taylors of Harrogate

Style: Scottish Breakfast – Region: Blend

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 9th, 2013

There's nothing subtle about this. Taylor's Scottish Breakfast is a stonkingly big, powerful brew which packs a wallop. An Assam and African blend, the malty Assam is right at the forefront and the African side of things is probably Kenyan, so the whole blend is a very malty affair. It also has a sizeable caffeine hit,...

Premium Leaf Tea from Dilmah

Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 9th, 2013

Dilmah, in their marketing, make a lot of noise about the freshness of their teas due to packaging within days of picking, and with their standard "Premium" offering it really does have a freshness distinct from most of the other big producers. The Premium in truth is an Orange Pekoe and exhibits that wonder deep orang...

Good, traditional British blend with malty Assam and Ceylonese Pekoe. Best suited as a breakfast or morning tea. The refreshing Pekoe plesantly lifts the punchier Assam making an enjoyable brew. Nice aroma but a touch on the pricey side.

Assam Organic Tea from Wegmans

Style: Assam – Region: India

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 6th, 2013

I find Wegmans black teas to be on the mellow side, but have superior aromatic qualities. This was a really enjoyable tea that is among the strongest of their black teas. Classic Assam character.

Dry leaf is not terribly aromatic, and smells like a typical black tea.

The brewed cup has a much more pleasing arom...

Darjeeling (Sachets) from Hampstead Tea

Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India

70 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Mar. 6th, 2013

A very good, easy going black tea. Not a very noticeable aroma, either in the bag or steeped, but still there and akin to most black teas with a fruity hint. Taken with a decent amount of sugar, it was still easy to discern a sweetness to the tea without any bite and mild astringency.

I really enjoyed this tea! I found it's aroma and taste to both be floral, light, and a bit sweet. As someone who usually sticks to english breakfast or earl grey, I found this delicate flavor refreshing. I drank it with milk, but I think it would have been perfect with a touch of honey. I even steeped it slightly long...

Organic Irish Breakfast Black Tea from Wegmans

Style: Irish Breakfast – Region: India

78 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Mar. 5th, 2013

A good tea, but not really true to the Irish Breakfast style. Pricey, and requires a lot of leaf to brew strong enough for me.

Dry leaf has a slightly malty and strongly fruity aroma, and a heterogeneous color showing a lot of tips, which look dusty beige in color.

This is the smoothest Irish Breakfast tea I've ...

Special Blend Tea from PG Tips

I thought it would be fitting to have my first cup of PG Tips since it was available at a friend's house, and this was the one. My price rating might be a little skewed since I got my bag for free, but from some brief online research I feel like PG Tips is a little overpriced for what it is. Despite the price, I like...

I thought this tea was pretty good, not anything spectacular, but definitely a good, regular, black. I thought the dried leaf smelled better than the brewed tea. Overall, I thought it was a good buy for its price. I'm looking forward to trying what else Wegmans has to offer.

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 27th, 2013

Dry leaf is unimpressive looking, relatively small broken pieces of orthodox black tea, but to me it has the most pleasing aroma of all of Wegmans offerings of pure black teas. Unfortunately, the brewed cup did not taste quite as amazing as the dry leaf smelled.

Upon brewing (4 minutes as recommended), produces a r...

I think I've found my breakfast tea, or in any case a certain kind of breakfast tea for a certain kind of mood. I think I've mentioned in other reviews that I tend to like my breakfast teas sweet, strong, and milky: my taste buds aren't so good at subtlety early in the morning.

The tea doesn't smell particularly str...

If you like a strong black tea then this one is for you. This tea has the smell of a traditional Assam with a hint of a fruity undertone that you just can't put your finger on. The steeped liquor is a beautiful amber color. This tea is full bodied, strong, malty, astringent, and very tannic. This tea lingers in your mo...

This is a nice traditional black tea. It tastes a lot like your standard black tea from a tea bag, but better. This tea is full bodied with medium tannin, a medium malty flavor, and only slightly astringent. This tea is good for a minimum of 2 steeps. This really could be an everyday tea for a lot of people. This is a top level black tea, but it can fool you. If you are looking for a bold, strong, malty black tea then this one is not for you. This tea is smooth and delicate. It is very low in tannin. While there is a pretty strong aroma when brewing it doesn't translate into the finished product.

I enjoyed this tea, and thought it very high-quality, but it was too smooth or mellow for my tastes, and I was never able to get a sufficiently strong cup out of it. Its flavor profile was similar to bai hao oolong (with a different aroma), and I find that tea too smooth for me.

Dry leaf consists almost exclusively...
