Peppermint from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: Europe60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Nov. 5th, 2009
Aroma very strong but more grassy and herbal, and more complex, than most straight peppermint teas. Balanced and not overpowering. Only a hint of sourness, less than most peppermint teas.
I still prefer the stuff I grow and dry myself, but this is a pretty good alternative. I give such a low rating for "value" be...
African Sunset from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 14th, 2009
The lemongrass is very present, at times dominating the rooibos in the aroma. Also, the lemongrass adds a sharpness and crispness that changes the character of this tea--it is not at all smooth the way rooibos on its own is. I like it though; it's a bit of a surprise but I think it's a welcome one. I think they've u...

My reaction to this tea was pretty much: eh. I resent paying luxury rates for a tea that tastes like a budget hotel.

Style: Fruit Green Tea – Region: Blend57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 10th, 2009
Aroma sweet-suggesting, slightly fruity but not overly so. The tea and berries seem to blend very well, and in spite of the addition of "natural tropical flavors" this doesn't have a particularly artificial taste. Smooth but tangy. A lot of dust gets through the teabag and sinks to the bottom of the cup, but this do...

Style: Jasmine Tea – Region: China30 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 1/5

I was served this at a coffee and tea trade show last week. It was an unnatural neon orange color. I asked the TLAAB presenter what was added to the tea but she assured me it was just green tea leaf and jasmine petals. Right..... The flavor was mild with almost no jasmine scent and very little tea flavor to boot, ...

Style: Pure Chamomile Tea – Region: Egypt70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 4th, 2009
Less fruity and a little more grass or straw in the aroma when compared to other chamomile teas. A tiny bit of sourness in the aftertaste, but otherwise clean and fresh tasting. Definitely one of the better chamomile teas I've tried. Full-bodied and rich.
A bit on the expensive side, but not too unreasonable give...
Darjeeling from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 4th, 2009
This used to be the best Darjeeling I've had in a tea bag...and better than some loose-leaf ones I've tried. I have since come to prefer Ahmad's Darjeeling though, which is much cheaper.
Fairly light, but still with some bite. This is the sort of Darjeeling tea that I like. The aroma has some interesting complexi...
Assam from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India68 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 4th, 2009
Mellow, smooth, rich malty flavor. Deep red color; little bitterness or astringency. Very enjoyable. I find this tea grows on me. There is a suggestion of sweet fruit in the aroma, almost like baked apples.
Two leaves and a bud recommends a 4-minute infusion. I prefer a 2-minute infusion followed by a second 4-...
Tamayokucha from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Tamaryokucha (Guricha) – Region: China50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 4th, 2009
This is the only example of guricha or tamaryokucha that I've tried, so I have no idea how typical it is. It seemed a lot more like gyokuro than any other type of green tea.
I find this tea painstakingly difficult to brew in a way I like. Brewing with a very low temperature is essential...otherwise this tea acquir...
Jasmine Petal from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Jasmine Tea – Region: China67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 2nd, 2009
Mellow and much less floral than most Jasmines; the tea dominates the aroma. There is little bitterness, almost no astringency, and and a hint of sweetness.
This tea holds up very well to multiple infusions: the second cup was just as flavorful as the first, and a third was still good. There's almost no Jasmine le...
Mtn High Chai from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Chai / Spiced Tea – Region: Assam, India50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 21st, 2009
Clove is dominant in the aroma, and cardamon is also present. Happily, this one does not overdo the cinnamon the way many American chai's do.
The tea is a mellow, smooth tea, and is overpowered by the spice, especially by the clove. I think they would have done better to use a stronger base tea.
Enjoyable, and ...
Earl Grey from Two Leaves and a Bud
Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 8th, 2009
I am not terribly impressed with this Earl Grey; it's very average for this style. The black tea aroma is a bit generic; there's a bit too much astringency and bitterness relative to the strength of the aroma. The bergamot aroma is also fairly mild.
Given the very high price of this tea, and the higher quality of ...
