Ceylon Single Estate from Rishi Tea
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 31st, 2010
Ceylon is not my favorite type of black tea, but I'm always blown away by what Rishi manages to come up with, so I was curious to try this one.
Brewed as recommended, this cup is dark but clear, and of below-average overall strength for a black tea. However, it is also more full-bodied than average. The aroma is s...
Bancha from Rishi Tea
Style: Bancha – Region: Kagoshima, Japan81 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Oct. 30th, 2010
I found this tea to be very different based on how it is brewed.
The light, flat quality of the dry leaf reminds me of dragon well, but the similarity ends there. This tea brews a very clear greenish-yellow color. Regardless of how strongly you brew it, it comes out completely transparent: there's almost no opacit...
Snow Buds 1st Flush from Rishi Tea
Style: Snow Buds – Region: Fujian, China77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 13th, 2010
This is very similar to the Xue Ya I tried from Adagio, but I prefer this tea as it is richer and more full-bodied.
I find this to be a very grassy tea, more like green tea than white. It has a sharpness, a bite to it. The cup is quite astringent and pleasingly bitter, but the finish is sweet and has depth to it. ...
Iron Goddess of Mercy from Rishi Tea
Style: Tie Guan Yin – Region: Nantou, Taiwan90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 10th, 2010
Wow. Rishi gets my attention again with another tea that is recognizable as its style but with its own unique twist. The aroma is astonishingly complex...in addition to the toasty, woody, and fruity tones you might expect from a medium-roasted Tie Guan Yin, there is a strong suggestion of spice (nutmeg, mace, and cin...

Style: Yerba Maté – Region: Argentina80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jul. 21st, 2010
Very rich and complex, and significantly different from other yerba mate I've tried, although definitely with the characteristic qualities of yerba mate. Overall green character with no evidence of roast.
Aroma is of straw with a hint of tobacco, licorice, and cinnamon. Flavor is slightly sweet, with a very sweet ...
Vanilla Mint Chai (Pu-erh Vanilla Tea, Vanilla Mint Pu-erh) from Rishi Tea
Style: Flavored Pu-erh – Region: Blend83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 17th, 2009
This one just sounded bizarre to me, but when I smelled the dry leaf, it started to make more sense to me, and when I finally tasted it I understood fully! =) It brews a very dark opaque red, just like Rishi describes. The aroma is very complex but in a way I haven't experienced before.
Initially with each sip I n...
Dragon Well (Anhui) from Rishi Tea
Style: Dragon Well (Long Jing) – Region: Anhui, China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Dec. 17th, 2009
This was a very gentle green tea. Delicate aroma with a hint of toastiness; less grassiness than other dragonwells I've tried. This particular tea is extremely smooth and low in both bitterness and astringency even when I brewed it with water hotter than recommended...I also found it can be brewed much longer than Ri...

Style: Green Rooibos – Region: South Africa90 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

I really like this! It's astonishingly different from the other green Rooibos I've tried, from Upton. This one has a bit of red leaf/stem mixed in and brews a bright orange color.
I recommend a very long steeping time; after 3 minutes the aroma hasn't fully developed. The aroma is fresh, light, and clean, with a ...
China Breakfast from Rishi Tea
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China70 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 3rd, 2009
Wow. I love the aroma of this tea...it is much more vegetal than most black teas, clean and fresh, and yet warm too. Smooth and yet relatively full-bodied, but thin relative to some breakfast teas. No astringency.
I do notice the peppery tones characteristic of a dian hong. The aroma is pleasingly complex. Ther...
Chamomile Medley from Rishi Tea
Style: Chamomile Blend – Region: Blend83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 23rd, 2009
This blend is predominately chamomile with only a hint of other herbs, and it is absolutely exquisite!
The aroma is mostly of light, fruity chamomile. A hint of mint comes out in the aftertaste; the muted bitter aftertaste that characterizes some chamomile teas is completely absent...in its place is a honey-like sw...
Wuyi Oolong from Rishi Tea
Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 21st, 2009
Darker among oolongs, but very mellow. The aroma is very warm, rich, and complex, with some roast, a hint of smokiness, and some tones of grain. It actually smells a bit like marijuana, and a bit like a fresh autumn day. I rather like the aroma and I can say I am constantly discovering new facets of it.
This tea ...
Jasmine Yin Hao from Rishi Tea
Style: Yin Hao Jasmine – Region: Hubei, China83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 2nd, 2009
This tea is very aromatic, and is both richer and less perfumey than some Jasmine teas. The flavor is mellow and smooth, there is very little bitterness and no astringency.
I have had good results with a shorter infusion time than recommended, and I think this tea is good for multiple infusions. You can also get a...
White Peony from Rishi Tea
Style: White Peony Tea – Region: Zhenghe, Fujian, China33 / 100 Aroma: 3/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 3/5
Aug. 29th, 2009
A disappointment, especially compared to Rishi's other offerings. The brewed tea is amber in color. The aroma is bold and peppery without being sharp; it almost suggests celery, but without the fresh vegetal notes most white teas have. There's not much bitterness, but there's a fair amount of sourness. This tea is ...

Style: Green Tea – Region: Hubei, China91 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Aug. 29th, 2009
The aroma is very complex, with some grassy tones and some sharpness. Simultaneously clean and rich tasting. In my opinion, this tea combines the clean, sharp qualities of a good Japanese Sencha, without the fishy quality, and with the more rich and warm characteristics of some of the better Chinese green teas.
