Sniffing the dry bag resurrected memories of high-school wood shop. At first I didn't understand why, then I realized the modest aroma has a component much like freshly sanded walnut, or basswood. That's not an unpleasant odor, just not what I expect in a tea. Perhaps a carpenter can appreciate this product better t...

From Harney's website: "A medium brown blend of the 8 different teas... This is a medium bodied tea with full bodied Assams offset by the lighter Darjeeling and Formosa Oolong." I was eager to try this tea after reading it's description so I ordered a sample, as the next available volume is an 8oz box.

Apr. 17th, 2018

1st steep - 212F and approximately 4 min : 1.5 t or 1 heaping teaspoon : 12oz water

I was a bit concerned at first because the box aroma has a strong syrupy cherry amaretto smell to it. But once brewed, this tea has a mellow but present good black tea smell, and maybe a little nutty towards the end. There was no tra...

Feb. 26th, 2018

An excellent roasted twig tea, crisp flavor and complex aroma! Probably my favorite roasted twig tea (i.e. not roasted leaf tea) that I have ever had.

I tend to always like hojicha, but this was one of the more interesting batches I've tried in a while.

This one is a roasted kukicha (twig tea) and the roast look...

Feb. 16th, 2018

This tea was good, but it just didn't wow me the way I would need a tea in this price range to do in order to want to buy it.

The dry leaf smells exquisite, multifaceted, and hard to describe. Although the color is dark, the smell resembles green teas in some ways. Softly toasty and bready, hinting at floral and s...

Pretty good tea. It smells like a ginger candy but without any sweetness. The taste is what you'd expect. A good amount of ginger to oolong but maybe a bit too much ginger. This tea is spicy just like a masala chai, but extremely mild. It is a pretty nice value at around 20$ a pound though.

Style: Jasmine Pearls – Region: Fujian, China

84 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jan. 12th, 2018

Firstly, this tea reminds me of the garden section of the home depot. Almost a clone of the smell(or I'm smell hallucinating). The aroma is extremely nice and is of course very jasmine. The flavor is amazing and has an undertone of a golden osmanthus oolong taste. Other than that, the jasmine taste is very smooth and s...

I received this as a sample sachet in my Harney and sons order along with 2 other loose leaf samples. The aroma is like a spicy fruit, but spicy is a sort of sour way, I do not smell any caramel though. Overall, very lovely. The Flavor tastes like the aroma but has much more of a "tea" taste to it. And has hints of car...

This tea is interesting - the little pearls unfurl as it steeps, and it releases the most wonderful jasmine aroma. I discovered it in a fine Asian diner when a pot of it was placed on the table. It's wonderful flower scent drew me in, and I had two cups of it. Ever since, this has been a staple in my tea cabinet for gu...

I really like herbal tea, which is why I rated this one pretty high. This herbal tea in particular was really good though, much better than celestial seasonings in my opinion. The flavor is very smooth and not astringent at all and it has a very cinnamon and sweet flavor. It says this tea has no sugar added, but it tas...

80 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 30th, 2017

Lapsang Souchong is not a tea for everybody, and this one is especially strong and smoky, a great beverage for a gloomy winter afternoon. You can almost feel woodsmoke in it. It's too aggressive for me to enjoy very often -- I have to be in a mood for it. But I could imagine a bit of it blended with another tamer bl...

Jul. 20th, 2017

I would tend to agree with the other reviews I've seen with regards to the flavor, but only because the aroma is so strong that I think the expectations for the taste are elevated. This is a great example of a tea whose smell is far greater than the flavor. That being said, the flavor is good, just not great. Furthe...

Jun. 22nd, 2017

This was my favorite oolong that I have sampled in a long time. After being let down by several oolongs from Harney & Sons, this one hit the spot.

The leaf, which is quite wiry, smells amazing and multifaceted: floral, fruity, toasty, spicy. There's a skunky note and a pleasant bready, baked-good quality. It seem...

Jun. 20th, 2017

I thought this was an above-average white peony or bai mu dan.

Dry leaf smells different from any other White Peony tea I've tried, notes of candied citrus peel, a sort of bittersweet smell, a slight pungency, almost hinting at camphor. I'm intrigued, and eager to try this to see what kind of cup this leaf produces...

I liked this one a lot, much more than typical for white teas.

I normally don't like tippy white teas, but I was super impressed by what may be this same exact same tea, or at least a similar one, sold by Golden Tips Tea. Unfortunately, this tea is no longer in stock at either company! It is worth waiting for this...

86 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
May. 31st, 2017

I have read about Anji Baicha for years now, and this is the first time I've ever tried it. I've been very curious about it, especially since I've read that it's among the teas highest in L-theanine, but is prepared rather differently from Gyokuro, the tea I've tried that is also highest in theanine. It didn't quite ...

71 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
May. 28th, 2017

The dry leaf has an interesting shape, loosely curly, less long and wiry than most Wuyi oolong. It's intensely aromatic, smelling like roast and fruit; the fruitiness is quite astounding, it's maybe a little like dried peaches or apricots.

The brewed cup is very roasty, with notes of wood and hints of coffee. It's...

This tea tasted more like a sweet, Christmas-ey baked good than any other tea I've ever tried.

The leaf has such a pleasant fragrance, a rich, buttery, bready, and fruity aroma, like a fruit tart fresh out of the oven, quite remarkable. There's a distinctive smell in the aroma that reminds me of some food from my c...

Overall this was more run-of-the-mill than I expected for such a high-end tea. My favorite thing about it was the smell of the dry leaf, the actual cup was good, but not as interesting.

The dry leaf smells incredibly beautiful...multifaceted too, lightly roasty, very fruity, like baked goods, suggesting sweetness, ...

I got my hopes up for this tea but it was oddly forgettable, disappointing among artisan teas. There's an intriguing sensation of peach when drinking it, but...besides that nothing about it stands out.

The dry leaf smells so good, really rich and pleasing, malty, a sort of warm baked good smell, with notes of spice...

I tend to like Mao Jian teas a lot, and I still liked this one, but it was my least favorite example of it that I've tried. It was unexpectedly smooth but lacked edge or bite, and I think this bite is one of the things that I most appreciate about this type of tea.

Dry leaf is wiry and curved, very dark green. Qui...

I bought a box of teabags at the same time as a tin of loose tea to see how different they are. The answer is not much.

Apr. 5th, 2017

Enjoyable but not amazing, not really standing out much among this style of tea. Smoother and less acidic than the norm for chun mee, but also perhaps a bit more boring too.

The dry leaf has a dusty vegetal aroma, slightly smoky, with a few sweet notes, kind of what I'd expect from this type of tea.

Brewed, this...
