Commercial Description
This is our Golden Kenya tea, sold in either bold broken-leaf or whole-leaf, depending upon availability. The cup has full flavor and aroma, with medium body. May be enjoyed plain, but it is strong enough to accommodate a touch of milk. Flavor hints of rose and nuances of pepper make this selection especially interesting.

I was surprised by this tea. Once again, I think some teas grown outside of 'traditional' can have an usual taste. I have had tea from Kenya before and it was a bit of a disappointment. This tea turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Nice aroma, for has a very slight hint of fruit. The liquor is a beautiful deep honey color. The taste is medium, no sharp flower or earth taste, there is slight tangy after taste. I will definitely purchase this tea again.

Upton sent this tea to me with my large order as a sample. They were spot on for finding me something greatly to my liking. Bold and full of flavor for a black tea, this Golden Kenya tea stands up to breakfast and offers complexity for afternoon teatime. This tea will be in my next order.

Surprisingly interesting aroma of the dry leaf....fruity but in a way distinct from any other sort of black tea.
Brewed cup is very complex: initially malty and very fruity, with a strong fennel aroma. Not much bite up-front, but there is a strong but pleasing bitterness, and a very bold peppery finish like a Yunnan tea. There are also hints of rose in the aroma, like Upton describes.
Upton seems to have a knack for locating broken-leaf teas of exceptional quality, and this is a fine example of one. This is probably the most complex and interesting broken-leaf tea I've ever tried, other than Upton's now retired Himalayan BOP. Pricey for a broken-leaf, over twice some whole-leaf teas by weight, but this is truly a high-quality selection that can command a higher price.
I found Upton's brewing instructions, 3 minutes with boiling water, to be spot on, but if you find this tea to be a bit too bold, scaling back the time might be a good idea.
