Lemony, tangy, almost like you added lemongrass or lemon flavoring. This was an interesting departure on one of my favorite types of green tea...it's recognizable as the style, but not in the way I expected. No smokiness, but still fresh tasting, although slightly less crisp. Much less bitter and astringent, and does not scald as easily as Chinese teas.Much larger leaves than in Chinese young hyson too. Brewing this tea is easy (especially in comparison to the Chinese ones, which in my opinion are tricky), it doesn't scald, and you can let it steep longer without acquiring unpleasant qualities. I suspect others might prefer this to the Chinese young hyson teas because of its smoothness, but I prefer the Chinese ones; they have more kick, and in my opinion, more complexity to the aroma if you manage to brew them in just the right way. |
