Upton seems to excel at inexpensive, organic Chinese green teas, and this one is no exception. The thin, wiry leaves have an interesting appearance both before and after brewing.
Aroma is very grassy and a little bit vegetal, with some dark floral tones almost more suggestive of a black tea. Grassier, sweeter, and less acidic than the chun mee teas, and has more kick and is less gentle than dragon well. Very clean, crisp, and cool tasting. Rich flavor: just a bit tangy and with some pleasant bitterness in the aftertaste. Definitely on the astringent side, but I found it to be just the right amount.
I think this would be a great choice of green tea across the board. If you are going to order a single Chinese green tea and you're not sure what to get, this would be a great option. Yet it's interesting enough to satisfy people craving some complexity.
