Yunnan Gongfu Fragrant from TeaVivre
Style: Black Tea – Region: Fengqing, Yunnan, China85 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Jun. 4th, 2018
It took me a few tries to get something I liked out of this tea, but I'm really enjoying it now. It seems to turn out best steeped for around 3 minutes with water just below boiling. The aroma is mostly floral and malty, with some dried fruit and a slight scent of potatoes in the background. The flavor is slightly malt...

The smell reminds me of a more "pure" version of the hazelberry pu erh tea from Adagio, and is very "woodsy" But with a more mineral of rocky taste, it is a very good value too, especially for a tea from almost 10 years ago.

An amazing and sweet tea! It is not very expensive and is a very high quality tea. The ball is tightly packed and I was able to get several infusions(keep in mind you can't break up the ball easily so I would use a at least 12 oz cup and fuse for 5 minutes). The aroma isn't strong but is very nice and sweet, it smells ...

May. 17th, 2018
This is my first unflavored puerh, so I don't have anything to compare it to. Mine was aged for 3 years so it might be slightly different from the normal version, but probably not that much. I had to air it out for a week to get rid of the smell of fish. Once that went away, the aroma of the dry leaves became earthy in...

This was an exceptional tea and one of my favorite that I've sampled in a very long time. It was somewhat like other Yunnan teas but had unique lemony notes. Thank you to Simpson & Vail for the sample! I'm excited because this one sparked me adding a new sub-region to RateTea, it's the first tea we've listed from Cang...

This is an extremely good beginner Pu Erh. It has a very deep flavor that tastes like how the woods smell after rainfall. And has a leafy and tree bark aroma. Also, the hazelberry evens everything out perfectly, and gives a nice flavor that doesn't take anything away from the tea. I've found that i could only get a few...

Overall, this is a very decent tea.
The smell is very nice but is just like a typical black tea.
The flavor is very nice and is almost like a less malty Irish breakfast tea with cocoa notes. The tea is naturally sweet and also very smooth and creamy. I re-steep this tea 4 times(western brewing) using less than 3 gra...
Yunnan Black Gold from Yunnan Sourcing
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Simao, Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 13th, 2017
Great Yunnan scent. Large leaves. Nice honey colored liquor. Taste is good, a bit mild. I'm sure this will be a great 'all day' tea. Might be a bit mild for milk or cream. Minor problem with I needed to purchase 10 packets to get the full amount I wanted.

This tea was served at Copper Cup coffee shop in Lancaster, PA. Prior to that, I hadn't even heard of Passenger Coffee, and this tea really blew me away; I thought it exceptional.
I tend not to like silver needle white teas because they're often a bit too subtle (or, put less diplomatically, bland or weak) for me, ...
Yunnan Loose Tea from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China88 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Oct. 19th, 2017
This was one of the most classic examples of a Dian Hong or black tea from Yunnan, that I have tried in a long time.
The dry leaf is rich in golden tips, looking a little more greenish and silvery than in the company's picture. It smells mild but very pleasant and complex, with smoky and fruity notes typical of a Y...

I have had this tea in 2016 and now this year. It has a strong aroma with hints of sugar. It also has a sweet flavor and great mouthfeel.

This sheng pu'erh has a strong taste with a thick liquor. It has a really interesting and pleasing sweet and bitter mouth-feel. This a strong tea with a powerful energy.

I would love to try sheng pu-erh since that seems to be so highly regarded, but I haven't been able to find any. Wanting that, I was also interested in compressed pu-erh of any kind, and De Theefabriek has these little "nests" of shou pu-erh.
They are individually wrapped in paper in the package, but I was hit by th...
Yunnan (Green) from De Theefabriek
Style: Green Tea – Region: Yunnan, China81 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

Even before I brewed this, the colour of the leaves reminded me of Vietnamese green teas: olive green with some grey and white leaves. The aroma and the colour of the liqueur also reminded me of Vietnamese green teas.
The aroma and flavour made me think of Simon Lévelt's Yen Bai Groen and a brandless tea called Vietn...

Nice amber colored liquor. Subtle aroma and flavor. The 'pearls' open up during steeping. Would not be my first choice if I wanted a 'strong' Yunnan. Very enjoyable.

Aug. 4th, 2017
This tea smells similar to Simon Lévelt's Ruhuna Orange Pekoe. The leaves are more colourful, with many golden tones, but the aroma has a similar strong dried fruit quality. However, I don't think I'd describe it as plums, exactly. Raisins come to mind, or rather, a kind of spicy raisin cake.
The liqueur tastes ver...
China Yunnan from Mark T. Wendell
Style: Black Tea – Region: Yunnan, China85 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This came in my second order from Mark T. Wendell. It looks nice in the tin, dark brown and gold mixed together. It has a pleasant faint smell. After steeping for 4 minutes it produces a deep red color. The aroma remains faint. The taste is smooth and very good with a peppery component that others have mentioned. It's ...

This tea smells pleasantly fungal and like straw, like damp autumn leaves and moist earth. The flavour is very soft and smooth and it never gets bitter or sour. I have, in the past, forgotten about it and left it to steep for more than five, maybe even ten minutes, and it's still been smooth. Even when it's strong, tho...

The teabags in the box are standard style bags filled with 2g of fannings and sealed in clear plastic. Opening the pouch releases a dry, earthy, leafy aroma. Adding hot water intensifies the aroma and adds a note of sweetness that wasn't present in the dry leaves.
Because the tea in the bags is cut so fine, it steep...
Ancient Golden Yunnan from Rishi Tea
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

While somewhat broken, the dry tea is in relatively large pieces and the golden tips that the style is known for are apparent. The aroma is malty with notes of raisins.
While brewing, the tea smells wonderful. The maltiness is pronounced, but tannic, leafy and perhaps mineral elements are also present.
The first ...

This tea is absolutely sublime, but has a price tag to match.
I was wandering around Chicago's Chinatown yesterday looking for interesting tea and saw a display of Prince of Peace's premium "gift box" teas. At $19.99 for 150g, I was worried that the quality wouldn't match the price, but decided to try it anyway. I w...

My first loose tea on this new journey.
Dark chestnut tea. Aroma is earthy and wood. Taste is earth, dry leaf, a bit of leather, some light pepper and green grass on the back of the tongue. On the second steep the taste was more dry leaf and less Earth with a nice warm tingling on the tongue. By the third steep all th...
