Safe Sex from Henri Bendel

Style: Flavored Rooibos – Region: Blend

89 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 30th, 2011

I've been served this blend several times now at a friend's house, and I am solidly impressed. This is probably my favorite flavored rooibos or rooibos blend yet. Quite strikingly, the aroma is very natural...there's a complete absence of anything remotely artificial.

The aroma is very pleasing...slightly chocolat...

Blueberry Bliss Rooibos Tea from Teavana

Style: Fruit Rooibos – Region: Blend

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 27th, 2011

I normally am not a fan of blueberry in herbal teas, but I tend to like Teavana's fruity blends so I gave this one a try. I was impressed.

Aroma is pleasing and fully natural: there's not a hint of anything remotely artificial, which I greatly appreciate. I definitely like green rooibos more than red, and the gree...

Scottish Breakfast (Loose Leaf) from Edinburgh Tea and Coffee Company

Style: Scottish Breakfast – Region: Blend

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 26th, 2011

Dry leaf is obvious CTC, finely broken. Upon brewing, however, I am more impressed with this tea. Brews an opaque light brown color, light in color for a black tea of this strength and body.

I recommend a 1 minute infusion, as this tea infuses very quickly.

Very full-bodied tea, rich and heavy. Aroma is comple...

Peppermint Guayusa from Runa

Style: Flavored Guayusa – Region: Blend

50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Oct. 24th, 2011

I actually thought this tea had a rather subdued peppermint presence, and I noticed the guayusa more than the mint, which is good. I did not think the two flavors blended particularly well with each other though...the mint seemed to obscure or cloud the Guayusa and vice versa.

The aroma was muddled, the flavor mild...

Organic Easy Digestion from Helps

Style: Wellness Tea / Medicinal Tea – Region: Blend

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 12th, 2011

This blend contains three herbs that I like a fair amount, but would not blend in this particular combination for taste alone. The aroma is muddled and somewhat heavy. The chamomile dominates, and the anise is noticeable too...the mint takes a background.

The flavor is both sweet and bitter.

This is an interest...

Cranberry Tea from Adagio Teas

Style: Fruit Black Tea – Region: Blend

57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 11th, 2011

For the most part, I like this tea, but there is a caramel-like quality to the aroma that I find objectionable. It's not clear what ingredient imparts this quality. Besides that, I think the tea is pretty good.

The base is a standard, full-bodied Ceylon of good quality, and in this blend, the base tea is pretty so...

Oct. 10th, 2011

I can definitely notice the thyme, linden, and fennel in the aroma. I don't know what mallow and elderflower smell like, so I can't identify them. The aroma is earthy and herbaceous, mostly dominated by the thyme.

Flavor is moderately bitter. This tea has a sort of slimy mouthfeel, for lack of a better descriptor...

Earl Grey from Ronnefeldt

Style: Earl Grey Tea – Region: Blend

53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Oct. 4th, 2011

This is definitely a novel twist on Earl Grey, using a Darjeeling as a base tea, and having more lemony overtones than the standard Bergamot quality. It's not clear whether this is actually flavored with a lemony bergamot oil or with lemon as well, but it does resemble normal Earl Grey enough that I can see this as ju...

Gingerbread Tea from Adagio Teas

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 30th, 2011

Aroma suggests sweetness, in a way I am not a huge fan of. It also suggests nutmeg, although I don't see any nutmeg in the ingredients. Overall, this one struck me as weak...not exactly offensive, but just...something I mildly dislike, very slightly unpleasant.

I continue to be underwhelmed by most of Adagio's fla...

Ginger Citrus from Runa

Style: Flavored Guayusa – Region: Blend

73 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 29th, 2011

This one reminded me a lot of lemon-ginger herbal blends, but is substantially different. It uses orange, not lemon, and uses only orange peel, no extracts, which I greatly appreciate. The orange is subtle, but has a fairly fruity quality, and is recognizable as orange. The Guayusa mostly disappears into the backgro...

Organic Green Tea Leaves from Helps

Style: Green Tea with Mint – Region: Blend

1 / 100 Aroma: 1/10 Flavor: 1/5 Value: 1/5
Sep. 29th, 2011

The spearmint in this blend was smooth and pleasing...but the green tea was very bad to the point of making the blend almost undrinkable...a sort of foul, stale aroma...with a heavy, astringent taste. It tasted a lot like the low-quality Chinese green tea used in Bigelow's basic green tea bags, but it was far worse.

Pumpkin Spice Tea from Adagio Teas

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

27 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 1/5
Sep. 26th, 2011

This blend did not work for me; although I love the flavor of pumpkin, and can imagine it really working well in a blend with black tea, I found that the pumpkin flavor in this tea was somewhat artificial-seeming...highly estery, and cloying, and also clashing with the other aromas and flavors. I would say the aroma w...

Style: Flavored Oolong – Region: Blend

70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 26th, 2011

This was an interesting tea; I find the idea of blending oolongs from Sri Lanka and India to be intriguing. The leaf is mostly larger pieces of broken-leaf tea, and has a mix of different colors, including mostly darker but some greenish leaf. It also includes jasmine petals, although they seemed possibly more orname...

Guayusa Spice from Runa

I was expecting this to taste a lot like Masala chai, and it didn't. The aroma is very gentle and soft, almost creamy...like rice pudding or oatmeal. There's a moderate amount of cinnamon, and it's a very soft type of cinnamon. I have to really focus to notice the lemongrass; I don't think I would have identified th...

Red Berries from Ronnefeldt

Style: Fruit (Herbal) Tea – Region: Blend

37 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 21st, 2011

My overall impression of this tea was that it was relatively unobtrusive, almost bordering on bland. It was slightly too sour for my tastes, but I find berry-flavored herbal teas usually are way too sour, so relative to other similar offerings on the market, this wasn't too bad.

There's a slight hint of an artifici...

I am not a huge fan of these sour, fruity herbal blends with a hibiscus base. This one is good for what it is, but it's still too sour for my taste.

The cup brews a pinkish red hue, lighter than a straight hibiscus infusion. The flavor is sour but not overwhelmingly so (much less than, say, Tazo passion, or straig...

Cinnamon Orange from Market Spice

Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend

Sep. 19th, 2011

This tea is unsweetened, yet the cinnamon imparts a significant sweetness to it. As someone who likes bitter teas, this one is actually a bit too sweet for me, even without adding anything to it. But I do appreciate the way they do not add any sweetener.

The aroma is mostly of cinnamon and orange, but the base bla...

Lightly smoky, like the base tea contains some Lapsang souchong...I initially notice the smoke more than the spice, but I also notice a lot of clove and ginger, and some cinnamon. I don't really notice the vanilla or cardamom--I always think you can add more cardamom as it's my favorite spice.

A very interesting tw...

Enlightened Mind from ShanTea

This one blended very well...I'm used to drinking green kukicha, but this has the roasted kukicha which I think blends well with the Yerba Mate. I can't notice the sencha as much, and I don't know what the Gingko would be like. I will say, the aroma is somewhat earthy, like a root or rhizome. There's a significant w...

Bold, slightly prickly ginger presence, peppermint and cinnamon also noticeable in the aroma. Aroma is dominated by the ginger, peppermint, and cinnamon. Flavor is sweet. Very full-bodied. This tea tastes very good.

English Breakfast from Revolution Tea

Moderate strength, relatively full-bodied, but considerably less bitter than typical for an English breakfast.

I think I prefer the green and white teas from Revolution tea, but this one was not bad.

Pricey though, for the quality. Revolution's other teas, in my opinion, deliver something more unique whereas thi...

I love chestnuts, and I could imagine them going well with black tea, so I was eager to try this one.

The aroma is very strong, a sort of caramelly, nutty quality. Although it's very nutty, it doesn't taste at all like chestnuts to me. It taste more like pecans than anything else...a buttery sort of pecan flavor, ...

Sep. 12th, 2011

I really prefer blends of green tea with spearmint to those containing peppermint, but given that this is a peppermint blend, I think it is quite outstanding.

This was a good, solid Earl Grey, but it failed to wow me the way some of the other Novus teas did.

Aroma is strongly fruity but also somewhat deep and malty. Fruity aroma strongly suggests concord grapes. Good balance of base tea and bergamot flavoring. Less citrusy than some Earl Greys. Very astringent, and ve...

The fruit flavoring in this blend really dominates; aroma is mostly of orange. I can't quite discern the cranberry as much...I don't know if there's any spice but there's certainly a suggestion of spice in the aroma. Aroma is not quite as complex as I'd like.

Flavor is slightly sour, more sour than straight rooibo...
