Similar to Red Peony - I just had an Invoice from Gopaldhara and Rohini Tea estates and I had an opportunity to taste the hand made Peony Rosette. Indeed very special mystical and mesmerizing mouth lingering taste as we go along from first cup to second cup. This is one of my favorite tea, The tea is medium bodied and ...

Fujian Baroque from Adagio Teas

73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 23rd, 2011

A good black blend with potent wake-up appeal. Had a strange taste I have trouble identifying, a natural sweetness, and a nice smooth strength. Tea had a decent energy kick to it as I felt rejuvenated drinking it rather than relaxed, which is a good thing depending on the moment. Although the tea is enjoyable, not sure...

Chinese Breakfast™ - Yunnan Black Tea from Numi Organic Tea

Style: Yunnan Red – Region: Yunnan, China

67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Nov. 28th, 2011

A classic Yunnan black tea, unusually smooth for a tea bag. Aroma is complex, with hints of cocoa, wood, and fruit. Peppery finish, characteristic of Yunnan teas.

I recommend a longer steeping time (5+ min). This tea is not as aromatic as a loose-leaf Yunnan, and its flavor is mild so you can steep it for a long ...

Oct. 15th, 2011

Jingmai Mountain produces some amazing teas, and this one from Samovar is no exception. They are right on the money when they describe the taste and aroma as: "Deep and malty with hints of baked, bittersweet chocolate and raisin sugar. Lightly roasted body with a slightly sweet finish."

Optimal brewing is with sprin...

Style: Keemun Hao Ya A – Region: Anhui, China

90 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 12th, 2011

This tea has a nice, dark color and a crisp, smoky aroma. The flavor is not bitter, not too dry and not very smoky at all, as I thought it would be from the aroma and my experience with other Keemun teas. It is even less smoky than its nearly as delicious sibling, Hao Ya “B”. It has a very clean, crisp, fresh tast...

This tea is pretty good. I like that it's strong enough and not bitter, but it has a weird aroma. I added cream and sugar.

Sep. 13th, 2011

This tea was interesting to me as it is pure Keemun, and not a blend of different teas, or predominately Ceylon possibly with some Assam, the way a lot of English breakfast blends nowadays are. I don't know much about the history of tea so I can't say much about the authenticity of this tea.

I will say, compared to...

67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 12th, 2011

This tea is mostly golden buds, and it is very similar to the other tea I've sampled that looks most similar to it in appearance, which was Life in Teacup's Yunnan Golden Bud. Smooth and peppery. Compared to that tea, this one has a softer peppery quality. Both teas are slightly Keemun-like.

Requires a long brewi...

87 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 25th, 2011

The leaves are small and tightly twisted/rolled and give off quite a smokey aroma, which dissapates as the tea brews. It does so even more in the taste, which is fairly light, smooth, creamy and just a wee bit smokey. There are hints of cocoa and roasted vegetables. It really is an excellent tea, but on the expensiv...

My first tea from Sichuan.

Surprisingly strong aroma like concord grapes, very different from the lighter muscatel aroma of Darjeeling or Bai Hao oolong. Smoky and woody tones in the aroma. Smooth, with a slightly dusty finish, and a hint of some floral nuances.

A very interesting tea and a very smooth tea. Fu...

This has become one of the staples in my cupboard over the past year. It is one of those highly adaptable teas that seems to appeal equally to friends who are tea purists, and those who just want a "good cuppa' tea" as well.

Bold, smooth, slight malty flavor with a lingering caramel aftertaste. A very nice balance...

This is a classic, high-quality Yunnan red. Dry leaf contains some golden tips, more than the picture on the website suggests.

Rich, malty, and with the characteristic aroma of Yunnan black teas. Fruity tones. Very full-bodied and rich, but smooth. Pleasing and not too tannic, much smoother than typical among te...

Color: dark brown with hints of amber; has a heavy viscosity and a good bit of cloudiness

Big disappointment! This tea has zero flavor. I'm a fan of strong black teas. Usually buy my tea in India and bring it back. This chinese tea smelled quite good in the shop, but the flavor is nil. Won't buy this again. Flat, boring, nothing.

Jun. 12th, 2011

The second Hubei Keemun I've tried, and it is immediately recognizable as a Hubei Keemun: the same aroma of chicken soup, the earthy and fruity Keemun tones weaker and taking a back burner, and a slight usually edginess not present in Anhui Keemuns.

Flavor is overall very sweet, there are even some tones of honey in...

Aroma toasty and caramely, like the crust of a pastry. This tea is so reminiscent of pastry that if I close my eyes, I almost picture there being a baked good, rather than a cup of tea, in front of me.

Dark, rich, but with a pleasingly smooth flavor. Finish leaves a surprisingly lightness on the palate, and a fain...

Clean tasting, mild, with a slightly bitter caramel-like quality. A bit flat, simple tasting, but very pleasant. Has a cooling quality, even when hot, and I think it would make a very classic iced tea.

I was expecting this tea to be similar to Upton's ZP20, Panyang Congou Select, because of the similar name, but i...

A delightful and complex black tea. Very robust and full-bodied, moderate bitterness, but not overly caffeinated. Aroma simultaneously a little smoky, fruity, and malty, with no one quality dominating the others. Very balanced. Very pleasing.

These chickpea sized balls of tea are too cute. They look like miniature rag balls that weavers or braiders use in making rugs. There is a definite scent of chocolate and dried leaves to them. As they brew, this continues and you are rewarded with a lovely smooth, sweet malty drink. There is a nice litle kick of ast...

Dry, this tea carries the wonderful scent of new hay drying in the fields, that indescribeble mix of clover, timothy, trefoil and other grasses. The brewing aroma adds chocolate, fresh wash and good, clean earth. The taste does not disappoint. There is a bit of chocolate, a bit of floral, a bit of honey, all on a bas...

The initial aroma is malty and deep, typical for a Yunnan gold, but with more fruity qualities, especially of dried fruit. Upon drinking the cup, the aroma becomes more fruity and vegetal, sharing some of the wine-like qualities of a Keemun with some of the vegetal qualities of some Darjeeling, even Darjeeling oolong ...

The leaves are gorgeous! the dry leaf smell reminds me of very strong dried fruits, such as dates and raisins. maybe a little goji berry, too. Pouring the tea into the cup, the color is a medium brown color. It smells sour with a complex flowery undertone. The taste is mildly sour but incredibly sweet. There are hints of a rose taste with overtone of a flower that I can not identify.
