About South Carolina, United States

Tea Plantation, South Carolina, Public Domain Photo by Bob Nichols, USDA.
South Carolina is a coastal state in the southeastern United States, and is the location of the Charleston Tea Plantation. This operation is one of the few commercial tea plantations in the continental U.S., and currently the largest and most well-known.

South Carolina has a humid subtropical climate, and the coastal areas have a seasonal pattern of precipitation, with more rainfall in the summer, much like the pattern of the Asian monsoon. This creates a climate zone quite similar to many of the major tea growing regions of China, particularly Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.

In contrast to these regions, which have rocky coastlines, South Carolina has a flat coastal plain. Much of the region is swampy.
