Superfine Jasmine Downy Dragon Pearls Green Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Jasmine Pearls – Region: Fuding, Fujian, China80 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 26th, 2013
This is meant to be a 'high-end' jasmine pearl tea, which, to be honest, is not something that I had thought to look into until I got a free sample of it. To me, jasmine teas are lovely, but the jasmine always overpowers the tea, making them all taste roughly similar.
I found this tea to be genuinely a cut above oth...
Organic Silver Needle White Tea (Bai Hao Yin Zhen) from TeaVivre
Style: Silver Needle – Region: Fujian, China87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 25th, 2013
This tea is mild and almost a little sweet, with some cucumber notes. Someone who is new to tea or expanding their tastes might find this tea easy to drink with no added sugar. I brewed it as directed, for about 2 minutes, and was satisfied with the results. I am not very familiar with white teas, but I enjoyed this on...

Style: White Peony Tea – Region: Fuding, Fujian, China93 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 25th, 2013
The most aromatic white peony I've sampled yet.
Dry leaf looks much lighter and with more downy tips than usual for this type of tea. Aroma of the dry leaf is intensely floral and delicate, with melon-like tones that I normally only encounter in silver needle.
When brewed as recommended, there is only a hint of ...
Lapsang Souchong Organic Tea from Wegmans
Style: Lapsang Souchong – Region: China70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Feb. 24th, 2013
This tea smells like a campfire. The smoky aroma is kind of strong. I like it, but I could probably get tired of it easily. It tastes kind of weirdly sweet. I have mixed feelings about the flavor. I added cream and sugar.

This has to be one of my favorite teas! Its light and exquisite floral smell often has me brewing two cups, which is rare! Its flavor is smooth and subtle adding a nice mellow compliment to the aroma. I look forward to relaxing to many more cups of Jasmine Petal in the future :)

Style: Green Tea – Region: Hubei, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 21st, 2013
I'd say this is my second-favorite of the green teas I've sampled from Arbor Teas so far.
The dry leaf is dark looking, with a fruity aroma, strangely suggestive of a strawberry tart or pastry.
Upon brewing, has a classic Chinese green tea profile. The suggestion of strawberry is present, but is like a hint or a...
Golden Monkey Black Tea from Teavana
Style: Golden Monkey – Region: Fujian, China73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 21st, 2013
This is a top level black tea, but it can fool you. If you are looking for a bold, strong, malty black tea then this one is not for you. This tea is smooth and delicate. It is very low in tannin. While there is a pretty strong aroma when brewing it doesn't translate into the finished product.

Style: Dancong Oolong – Region: Guangdong, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 21st, 2013
This was among my favorite Dan Cong oolongs that I've tried. It slightly disappointed me though in that its best aromatic qualities seemed to vanish quickly after the first cup, but the remaining flavor was still very good.
Dry leaf consists of large, dark grayish-brown, twisted whole leaves, and is intensely aroma...
Jade Cloud (aka Green Jade) from Rishi Tea
Style: Green Tea – Region: Hubei, China77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 19th, 2013
Unlike many green teas, Jade Cloud did not taste bitter to me. It was smooth and refreshing, with sharp, citrus, and grassy qualities.I had a tea bag sample version, and made it according to the instructions. It tasted more sour/sharp as it cooled, and was good for a second steeping. I generally enjoyed this tea, but pr...

Feb. 19th, 2013
I enjoyed this tea, and thought it very high-quality, but it was too smooth or mellow for my tastes, and I was never able to get a sufficiently strong cup out of it. Its flavor profile was similar to bai hao oolong (with a different aroma), and I find that tea too smooth for me.
Dry leaf consists almost exclusively...
Jasmine Tea Bags from Rishi Tea
Style: Jasmine Tea – Region: Hubei, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 17th, 2013
This struck me as one of the better jasmine teas I've had in a tea bag or sachet, if not the best. I'd compare it against Two Leaves and a Bud's Jasmine Petal, or Novus Tea's Jasmine Tea. I prefer it to both; it seemed more similar to Novus Tea's offering.
Slightly perfumey. Very full-bodied; somewhat astringent ...
Fengqing Paddy Flavor Raw Pu-erh Cake Tea 2006 from TeaVivre
Style: Raw (Sheng) Pu-erh – Region: Fengqing, Yunnan, China80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 14th, 2013
I don't have a lot of experience with higher-end Pu Erh tea, so I don't have much to compare this to. In the past I've drank (and rather liked) the cheap stuff you find in Chinatown, the kind that smells fishy and tastes of dirt.
This tea was an altogether different experience for me. I didn't have much of it, so I ...
Organic Pai Mu Tan White Peony from Wegmans
Style: White Peony Tea – Region: China60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Feb. 11th, 2013
This tea is pretty good. It turned out really light-colored when I first brewed it, compared to other white peony teas. It also took a long time. It's pretty flavorful - it has a nice sweet flavor, but it doesn't have the same intensity to it as the Prince of Peace tea that I always drink. I don't like it as much. I ad...

Feb. 9th, 2013
I find it interesting how different people I have given this tea to have perceived it differently. I thought it a top-notch tea, but I also found that it doesn't have as much of a universal appeal as some high-quality teas.
Dry leaf is pleasingly aromatic, and shares a lot of qualities in common with top-quality bl...
Organic Superfine Keemun Fragrant Black Tea from TeaVivre
Style: Keemun – Region: Huangshan, Anhui, China60 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Feb. 9th, 2013
I thought this tea was good for a basic black. The flavor wasn't as complex as the description suggests. I noticed more of a smokey taste than floral and fruity undertones. I enjoyed this tea overall, but I probably wouldn't buy it on my own for its listed price.

Usually when I write a review, I do it from the perspective of trying to give whoever reads it a sense of what to expect - what the tea is likely to taste like, how it will respond to different kinds of brewing conditions, what other kinds of teas and experiences it's likely to resemble - rather than saying whether I t...

I notice that a lot of people who review teas use this turn of phrase "everyday tea", which I take to mean something unfussy and satisfying that you can happily drink on a regular basis. This tea had that quality for me.
The instructions say to brew it a little hotter and shorter than I'm used to with green teas - a...

This tea was wonderful as a complete, sensual experience. The leaves are light and elegantly pointed, covered in fuzzy silver-white hairs. They didn't smell like much when it was dry, straight out of the package. It was a bit nutty and a bit floral, maybe. But once I had brewed them the leaves gave off a completely une...

This tea is interesting. I like it. It has an aftertaste that I don't quite know how to describe, but it's not bitter. It tastes rich, a little like bread or something. I added cream and sugar.

The dry leaf looks a bit jumbled and broken, and has a strong and pleasing aroma, typical of Chinese green tea. Leaf looks dark when dry, and is slightly broken, but quite light after brewing.
Upon brewing, produces an exceptionally smooth cup. Among the smoothest of green teas I've tried in this price range.

Bao Zhong Oolong Tea from Arbor Teas

I enjoyed the subtle flavor of this tea and would drink it again. The smell was a little strange at first, smelling kind of like pea soup, but faded into a more floral tone as it steeped.

I was really intrigued and impressed by this tea. It's the first Golden Monkey I've sampled, and it's set the bar pretty high for future sampling.
Dry leaf is very aromatic, and smells strongly and distinctly of whole grain rye and caraway. Slightly suggestive of Yunnan Gold teas, which have a similar appearance, ...

I never thought I'd get yet another opportunity to sample more loose-leaf tea from SpecialTeas, but one of my friends had a sealed packet of this tea and I was able to brew it up.
I must say, it stored very well and tasted very fresh.
As the commercial description suggests, this tea has a plum-like flavor. It is...
