English Breakfast (Loose) from Twinings

Overpriced for what you get. I like the tin though. This is a utility tea; it'll wake you up without being unpleasant tasting.

Good tea. This is what breakfast tea should taste like. A bit pricey, but not a deal breaker.

This is my baseline tea. Very serviceable, at CAD$5 for 60 bags it's a good value.

Found this at the Sacramento Natural Foods Coop when looking for an alternative to the tea at my motel. I really like this tea. I brewed for 5 minutes and it has a slightly sweet flavor. I didn't detect any bitterness or astringency to it. It's very smooth. At a little more than $3 for 20 bags it seems like a good deal...

This tea smelled fantastic, but it was disappointing when I actually brewed it. It also didn't seem to match the commercial description or my expectations for an English Breakfast blend.
The dry leaf has a fresh, light fruity aroma, smelling very sweet and bright. The fruitiness is more like fresh grapes than drie...

Really delicious tea!!! I am heartbroken that Lipton Tea has decided to discontinue English Breakfast tea...my favorite tea. Now I have to go and find a brand of English Breakfast tea that tastes just as good. Any ideas?

Count me in the upper-middle on this one—not quite as impressed as Alex (probably due to my lesser ability to detect subtleties) but certainly not as disappointed as some of the other reviewers further down the list either. It was good, and I'd drink more, for sure...just not for the price, when comparable bagged te...

This tea is very good for a typical black tea. At around 20 cents per cup, it is a pretty decent value. It is very thick bodied and strong and it's a great tea to start my morning off with! It is also really interesting because, although its very similar to an english breakfast tea, it's slightly smokier and has a grea...

I got a sample of this in my last order from MTW. It looks just like the photo on the web page, not CTC but not whole leaf either. Looks like it came from a teabag.
I brewed it 4 minutes using boiling water per instructions. It had a slightly muddy appearance. The main impression was astringency, that coated the ton...
English Breakfast (Loose) from Twinings
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend42 / 100 Aroma: 2/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5

Twinings teas in general consistently fail to impress me, though before this, I mostly had tried a few of their bagged offerings. A box of this was available at an estate sale, really cheap, so I figured to give it a run. While it's better than their bagged teas, and not a bad tea at all, I'm still no fan.
For a...
Organic Breakfast from Mighty Leaf Tea
Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend55 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 2nd, 2017
I've recently started looking for Fair Trade Certified teas, so I decided to try a box of Mighty Leaf tea.
My first impression is that the tea is lower quality than the packaging and price would indicate. The box says that the sachets contain "whole leaf tea," but the tea in the sachets is in quite small pieces, not...
Yorkshire Gold from Yorkshire Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend50 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5

The dry tea is CTC tea that has been ground up further, almost to dust. It smells earthy and vegetal.
The scent of the brewing tea is oaky, but mild. The flavor is stronger than the aroma would indicate, but is still quite mellow. The tea has nice body, but the flavors are muted. It's not particularly bitter or astr...

The commercial description of this tea is pretty grandiose...it makes it sound like a masterpiece of blending, and I would say it's not.
To me, this is a classic but somewhat run-of-the-mill blend that is enjoyable but stands out in no way. I would not describe it as complex, although it's a good bit more complex, ...

Other reviews of this tea seemed to be about the bagged variety, so I hope it's OK to create a new category.
This is the first loose leaf tea I ever tried, mostly because it's the only one I could find. It's about $10 for 7ozs. at Cost Plus.
It has a faint smell in the can. It has small leaves with flecks of go...
Irish Breakfast from Adagio Teas

This is truly a seamless blend, as Adagio calls it, of their Ceylon Sonata and Assam Melody teas. It stands up well to milk and sugar, but doesn't *need* it as some Irish Breakfast teas do.

I've been drinking this tea since seemingly forever. Always preferred it to Lipton. Now that I'm a tea snob maybe I'll try the loose leaf version.

Has a full, rich aroma. Good amber color. Nice, rich flavor. All the flavor of a full leaf with the convenience of a tea bag. I take this along to my favor breakfast place, I enjoy this more than the Lipton the restaurant serves.

To be honest, I didn't personally care for this tea :/ I mean this tea was a great value considering each box contains a whopping 55 bags compared to twinning's 20, but the flavor just wasn't there for me. The taste was rather bitter, but not in a strong and robust way, but almost like pool water. like chlorine. I can ...

I know I don't like English blend tea, but this tea was very cheap (regular price €1.40 for 100 g, and it was on a 35% discount) and I figured that since it's loose tea I'll have more control, and it might end up tasting decent.
Wrong.
It tastes and smells like any other cheap English blend from flat teabags: sou...
British Blend - Premium Black Tea from Tetley Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
May. 6th, 2017
Cutting open a dry teabag, the tea is small pieces of CTC pellets. It smells nice, but generic; the aroma is oak leaves and malt without much complexity.
Adding the water brings out the Assam in the blend. The sour, malty aroma is quite rich. The first taste of the tea is a surprise in that teas that smell like the ...

There's no aroma at all from the dry tea. Upon opening the box for the first time, there's a paper smell that is probably from the teabag material itself.
Tastes like stale, weak tea, but even so, is one of the best decaf blacks.
There's no bitterness or astringency, but there's a little sour vegetal flavor on th...

I found this tea at the Dollar Tree, so I decided to try it. Inside the box are 12 large, round, unwrapped tea bags. The total weight of the tea is 84g, so each bag contains 7g, or enough for 2-3 cups of tea. Though the tea is intended to be made into iced tea, I'm drinking it hot.
I cut open one of the bags to look...

As the other reviewers stated, this tea lacks the bite of Lipton and other commercial teas. And if you want a solid, strong tea that holds up to milk and sugar, this one is hard to beat. This only seems to be available in two places: at the Mccormick Spice Shop in Baltimore's Inner Harbor and online at a Baltimore gour...

The dry tea is strange-looking. I think it's CTC tea that has been broken up into smaller pieces. Each teabag contains 3g of tea, so expect a strong cup of tea if you're used to American teabags.
Dry, it smells like CTC Assam tea, malty, tannic and slightly smoky. Adding the water opens up the aroma, which is rich a...

This blend was more Keemun-like than anything else; it reminded me of the type of Keemun that I like most, the rich, mellow, warming and slightly sweet sort.
The Dry leaf's aroma reminds me of candy: fruity and sweet, suggesting marzipan, chocolate, and hazelnut cream.
The aroma and character of the Keemun comes ...
