Gunpowder Green from Harney and Sons
Style: Gunpowder Green Tea – Region: Zhejiang, China57 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Mar. 14th, 2016
This is an easy-drinking green tea with grassy notes an a faint whiff of herbs (I dunno - but I get an herbaceous quality if you let it steep long enough.) Must steep at least 3 minutes as it brews up "pale". Good hot and OK on ice. I live this one better hot. Super-mild. As with all Harney & Sons - beautifully pac...

Roasty-Toasty but not worth the price - there are better (and also worse - see my other Gen Mai Cha reviews) versions available. If you are a Gen mai lover (Roasted rice/grain notes) this is a decent choice but no holy grail. Very nice in summer.

Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 25th, 2016
This was my favorite broken-leaf Assam that I've ever tried. Surprisingly sweet and nuanced for a broken-leaf tea, and an excellent price, especially given that it's organic certified.
Dry leaf has a pleasant fruity and malty smell, typical for an Assam but smelling sweeter. Although it's a finely broken tea, the s...
Tippy Yunnan from Harney and Sons
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 16th, 2016
I thought this an excellent tea and it is definitely among my favorite Dian Hong or Yunnan Red (black teas) that I've ever sampled. It's one of many samples I recently ordered from Harney & Sons.
I chose this for a very cold morning, because I find Yunnan teas to often have a powerful warming quality, and I found i...
Vietnamese Black OP from Harney and Sons
Style: Black Tea – Region: Vietnam73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 16th, 2016
A medium-bodied tea with nutty and chocolatey aromas, I can see this being likely to please people who enjoy hot chocolate.
The dry leaf has a strong smell of sweet nutty candy, like marzipan, pistacio, milk chocolat, or hazelnut creme. It reminds me of those Mozartkugeln, the German candies with layers of hazelnut...
Uva Highlands from Harney and Sons
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Uva, Sri Lanka73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Feb. 14th, 2016
A potent, robust tea with a distinct wintergreen aroma that comes out more some times than others. A bit sensitive to brewing conditions, and not for the faint-hearted, but good if you want something strong, especially if you drink tea with milk. I served this to a friend who likes strong Irish Breakfast tea, and she...

I bought these sachets for when I go out for breakfast. I have a usual place I go to on Saturdays. That restaurant only has Lipton (fannings grade). I prefer a full leaf tea, and this does the job nicely. Good flavor and easy to take along.

An exceptional sencha from a tea bag; without a doubt the best sencha I've ever tried from a tea bag, and better than a lot of examples of loose-leaf tea.
The dry tea bag has a very fresh and pleasing aroma, like loose-leaf sencha of very good quality, suggesting sweetness.
Brews a very light-colored cup with a b...
Peppermint (Sachets) from Harney and Sons
Style: Peppermint Tea – Region: Oregon, United States63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 2/5

Served in the Barnes & Noble Cafe in Newark, DE.
I am more partial to spearmint than peppermint, but I do enjoy peppermint from time to time. I picked this one mainly because it was one of the only two caffeine-free herbal options in the cafe, and I had already tried the other one.
This is a very good peppermint ...
Black King from Harney and Sons
Style: Black Tea – Region: Hunan, China100 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Dec. 13th, 2015
Wow, this is a truly exceptional tea.
The dry leaf looks and smells intricate and beautiful: the appearance is fine, wiry leaves with a dusty appearance, a mix of gold and rich brown, and the aroma is very intense, strongly malty, like rye malt, with hints of spice, and the suggestion of sweetness. There's a strong...
Hot Cinnamon Spice (Sachets) (Formerly Hot Cinnamon Sunset) from Harney and Sons
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: ?????80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5

I've had this both hot and cold. It's excellent however you prefer it. There is no doubt of the pronounced cinnamon, but it's isn't overdone. The distinct cinnamon and orange tones are pleasantly balanced and sustained regardless how long you take to drink it.

The aroma is mild: you've got to put your nose pretty close to smell anything, and you don't get a whole lot even when you do. But, fear not, it does have some aroma. And that is "mild black tea," right out of central casting.
Low tannins, low bitterness, low astringency, low anything else that makes black tea unpl...
Peaches and Ginger from Harney and Sons
Style: Flavored Black Tea – Region: Blend67 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Oct. 8th, 2015
For a flavored tea this is pretty good. Usually I prefer unflavored stuff so that I can enjoy the true flavor of the tea. That being said, the aroma and mellow flavor of this tea are quite good. I enjoy the blend of peaches and spicy ginger. Just enough of each for the flavor without being overwhelming.

I like smoked paprika (keep the sweet kind away from me.) I like smoked brisket. I like campfires. I like tea.
I thought I'd like Lapsang. But it was just too smoky. A co-worker and tea genius made some for me and I tried it but then yelped, turned tail, and felt a deep shame.
So I had a lot on the line when I t...
Java Golden Black Tea from Harney and Sons
Style: Black Tea – Region: Indonesia83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
Sep. 10th, 2015
Without a doubt the best Indonesian tea I've sampled. Most like Yunnan teas, but a bit of its own thing: strong and black but with a slightly lighter body.
The dry leaf, which consists of short pieces of leaf, mostly golden in color and beautifully curled, has a strong aroma, like rye malt with a hint of spicy note...
Livingstonia GFOP from Harney and Sons
Style: Black Tea – Region: Tanzania77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

A multifaceted, but somewhat subdued tea.
The dry leaf of this tea has a fruity smell, suggesting sweetness, but not very strong.
Upon brewing, the cup smells like wintergreen, pine needles, and moss, like the forest floor in a northern pine forest, but the flavor is very mellow and subdued and many of the notes ...
Kenya Milima from Harney and Sons
Style: Black Tea – Region: Kericho, Kenya83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

A strong black tea with numerous fleeting complexities. I tried this tea together with two other Kenyan black teas sold by Harney and Sons, the Kaimosi CTC and Kangaita OP, and this tea seemed in between those two in overall characteristics, but it also seemed to be a more nuanced tea than either of them, and it grew ...

2014 harvest. A very pleasant tea that I have enjoyed drinking daily. Ever-so-slightly disappointing, but only after trying some of the Kenyan teas sold by Harney, which were cheaper yet which I still liked better. I think had I not bought this in such a batch of top-notch teas, it might have shined a bit brighter. I...

A rich, deep, and mellow tea, excellent if you want something very dark but smooth.
Dry leaf smells only faintly, but the aroma is extremely pleasant, I'd say beautiful. I find I like it more each time I smell it. It is a fruity and vegetal quality, reminiscent of the best Kenyan teas I've sampled, and a little li...
Kaimosi CTC from Harney and Sons

A birthday present from my parents, purchased from the Harney & Sons store in a batch of mostly African black teas (they know I LOVE these sorts of teas). This was a very hearty tea that I liked right from the start. Robust and powerful, pleasantly rich and aromatic, but tending towards harsh. Still, I kept coming b...

The best cinnamon tea I have found, and the perfect tea for those who try to stop taking sugar with their tea. The cinnamon aroma, together with the other spices (orange peel, cloves) is so strong and sweet that it almost feels like it has sugar in it. One sachet is enough for two cups or a small tea pot. Minus for ad...

A tea for the cinnamon lover! It has a strong cinnamon taste, and can be taken both with milk and without, both good. Minus for added artificial flavour in addition to the real spices.

This mild, pleasant tea has a strong smell out of the bag but a mild one in the cup.
I like eating cranberries for food, but wasn’t sure about as a focus note in tea. It’s in the background and almost makes me want to say it’s an astringent feel, but it’s not. It’s natural and not artificial, not stron...

A pleasant tea that reminds me of a Giovanni Cocoa powder I had in my cupboard for awhile. This double chocolate cocoa powder smelled great but was kind of crappy as a hot chocolate – I’m NOT saying this is crappy as a cocoa tea, but they remind me of each other. Basically the taste of THIS reminds me of the aroma ...

A very good tea from Harney & Sons. I’m a recent convert to Lapsang, so was excited to see the description of this one blended with that tea for a smoother version.
It is smoky but slightly, and all the teas blend together to make a smooth, smooth tea that has no bitterness, no astringency, and a subtle but very...
