Picture of Special English Breakfast

Special English Breakfast from Harney and Sons

Style: English Breakfast – Region: Blend

85 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
May. 16th, 2018

I find this to be a bit of a fascinating tea. Unlike H&S's other English Breakfast offerings (that I'm aware of), it's not a full-leaf tea. Instead, it comes in what looks to be small granule-like pieces. Unlike fannings, these look to be deliberately ground, and it is surely ground finely - I wouldn't suggest using me...

Lapsang Souchong from Harney and Sons

Style: Lapsang Souchong – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
May. 16th, 2018

I am a bit of a connoisseur of Lapsang Souchong. I have tried them from many different brands, and I think that the H&S offering of it is by far the best. The smokiness of it is beyond fantastic and I think that it's just amazing.

As a previous reviewer said, Lapsang Souchong isn't really a tea for everyone - it sme...

Sencha Scent of Mountains from Harney and Sons

Style: Sencha – Region: Shizuoka, Japan

75 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
May. 14th, 2018

Sencha Scent of Mountains is a very aptly named tea. It has the most wonderful aroma of any tea I've ever had (beyond Lapsang Souchong) and it truly is an amazing sencha.

The scent can be described as vaguely forest-y with the rich buttery background of a proper sencha. It's quite difficult to describe, but it is tr...

Formosa Oolong from Harney and Sons

Style: Oolong Tea – Region: Taiwan / Formosa

72 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
May. 11th, 2018

The H&S Formosa Oolong was my first experience with Taiwanese oolong-style tea. As such, I had no idea what to expect going in to it.

Now, I'm not a really big oolong drinker. I mostly like blacks and Japanese greens. As such, my only other experience with oolong (at this time) is a Chinese TGY. Compared to that, th...

Russian Country from Harney and Sons

Style: Russian Caravan – Region: Blend

90 / 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
May. 11th, 2018

Now, I'm biased. I love me some Lapsang Souchong, which as I gather, is relatively unusual. I love it so much that I'll drink it straight. I love the woodiness of it, and the campfire-like smell to it.

Russian Country, however, is a step up. While it doesn't have as much of that lovely flavour profile of a LS, it's ...

English Breakfast from Harney and Sons

Style: English Breakfast – Region: China

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5
May. 11th, 2018

Like the tin says, it's definitely entirely comprised of nothing but Keemun, with the vegetal, almost barnyard-esque notes of the tea shining through. Probably why it's normally mixed in a typical English Breakfast. It does, however, smell delicious - like any good black tea, it's got that heady aroma of caffeine yet t...
