Singbulli, Darjeeling Black Tea, First Flush 2014 from Happy Earth Tea
Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India73 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 23rd, 2014
Very smooth, fresh tea. I definitely like the lighter, non-bitter taste of Darjeelings compared against regular black teas. The first cup of this one was particularly good, while the second one was slightly weaker in flavor. Still, I enjoyed the very lightly floral taste, which contributed a pleasant complexity to the ...

Style: Herbal Tea – Region: India87 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 18th, 2014
This was my first rose petal tea, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.
The dried flower petals had a nice perfume scent, which I enjoyed because I'm really big on flowery teas. I can imagine that the floral scent wouldn't be for everyone.
The taste was smooth, mild, and pleasant. Nothing bitter about it.
I...
Puttabong, Darjeeling First Flush 2014. from Happy Earth Tea
Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India78 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 17th, 2014
Despite leaving the leaves to brew a little longer than I originally intended (meant to brew for 3 minutes, but ended up closer to 5), this is a very smooth tea. I brewed it at 180 °F. This would make a very good general purpose, share it with friends sort of tea. There's no bitterness, I like the almost-floral aroma,...

Style: Darjeeling Second Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India60 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 14th, 2014
I think this is an average to above-average, if a bit unmemorable, darjeeling.
Steeping the tea the traditional way using DAVIDsTEA's instructions gives a pretty bold mouthfeel. It is quite astringent, with good body, and little bitterness. The aroma is quite pleasant and very much like a darjeeling, earthy with s...
Organic Assam Breakfast from Republic of Tea
Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India80 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 7th, 2014
Saw this Organic Assam on the Republic of Tea website and fondly remembered the Temi SFTGFOP1 First Flush Black Tea that Alex Zorach had sent me a sample of last year, so I had to give it a try.
This tea is organic TGFOP1 full leaf from the Hunwal Tea Estate, in the Jorhat area of Assam. Hunwal rises into the hills ...

smells as expected...lemon and black tea...smooth and tasty , slight lemon flavor that is good...not harsh...2 tsp for 6 minutes steep ...second trying seems to have less flavor than the first (1 point deduction) and mostly black tea taste x2

Style: Tulsi / Holy Basil – Region: India67 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 17th, 2014
A solid holy basil tea. Has the distinct basil flavor (though I've only tried one other so far), but with a hint of pepperiness. Definitely savory, not bitter. If you like a nice, smooth holy basil as a drink, this one is quite good. I do wish the taste was more robust, though, as it's relatively light--especially by t...

Very interesting tea! It's only my second Darjeeling and, so far, I think this will be my preferred style of black tea. It doesn't have the bitterness of most black teas, and this one has a light raisin-like flavor that works quite well with the delicately savory body of the tea. The aroma smells lightly of a licorice-...

Aug. 7th, 2014
My first Darjeeling, and quite good! I can't detect much (if any) of the bitterness I associate with black teas. It tastes like a *good quality* version of the tea used for sweet iced tea (and unsweetened tea) in the southern U.S. If I wanted to serve tea at a summer social gathering, I could imagine brewing up a stron...

Aug. 5th, 2014
The aroma of the tea is expectantly spicy, deliciously so, I would go as far as mouth-wateringly so, but it is no secret that I go gaga for spices. The Assam is rich and malty with notes of molasses as well, it is quite sweet, also the spices are strong but well balanced. None of this cinnamon elbowing its way to the f...

Jul. 7th, 2014
Purchased from The Tea Lab in Lakewood, Ohio, for the reasonable price of $5 an ounce.
This is one of those rare teas that I was super enthusiastic to try. Oolongs were historically not produced in India, and it's even rarer to find one produced anywhere outside of Darjeeling. This is the first Indian-grown oolong...
Darjeeling Makaibari from The Tea Lab
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 5/5

A classic Darjeeling, a typical but great-quality example of this region's tea. Rich-colored but light-bodied and mild for a black tea, with a aroma that somehow manages to be both strong and delicate.
Initially sampled at the Tea Lab storefront in Lakewood, Ohio. I then purchased some (for a very reasonable price...
Organic Makaibari Darjeeling from Della Terra Teas
Style: Darjeeling Autumnal Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India77 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5
Jun. 29th, 2014
The aroma is sweet and muscatel, with a bit of a sharp leafy aroma, similar to that of grape leaves and oak wood. It is mild and pleasant, an enjoyable sniff that is reminiscent of nature and plants and a slight sweet finish of raisins.
The taste of this tea is deliciously mild and muscatel with notes of freshly mow...
Singbulli, Darjeeling Black Tea, First Flush 2014 from Happy Earth Tea
Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 2nd, 2014
Dry leaf has less aroma than the other samples from Happy Earth from this year; aroma is fresh and light like the other teas, but is more suggestive of caramel.
Upon brewing, the cup is not as obviously aromatic, but the flavor is similar. Sipping the cup, I notice pleasant floral tones, but they're fainter than in...

Last year's (2013) Puttabong was my favorite of the first flush teas, but this year I don't think it held that spot (this year, that would be Risheehat).
This batch was slightly peculiar, and I found a little tricky to brew to satisfaction. I found it worked best when brewed with lower temperature water, and then w...

Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India70 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

This tea was remarkable, but I don't think it suited my personal tastes as much as the other first flush teas I've sampled from Happy Earth Tea, both this year and last. I can see others liking it more though. Imagine a high-grade Chinese white tea with the typical Darjeeling muscatel nuances superimposed on it.

May. 24th, 2014
The aroma of this tea is very faint, the leaves have a slightly vegetal and leafy aroma and that is all. What little aroma there is in the leaves is certainly a classic green tea.
The taste of the tea is probably the most 'green' green tea I have ever had. That probably needs some explanation, when I say it tastes l...
Risheehat, Darjeeling Black Tea, First Flush 2014 from Happy Earth Tea
Style: Darjeeling First Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India87 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5

This tea took me back to summers spent sitting out at my parent's house on the deck... I've never experienced a tea smelling so summery and think it was because of its lemon and flower tones. I really could have spent most of my night holding the cup in my hand and taking occasional wiffs! Mmm... smells are one of my...

This tea also smelled delightful, better than I remember from last year, and last year's tea was already fantastic. Compared to the other first flush teas, I found it a bit more nutty, but only very slightly so.
Upon brewing, becomes more vegetal than the leaf suggests. Aroma is very floral, suggesting honey and ...

I definitely get that hint of wine in the description! And I got it BEFORE I read the description, so I am pretty happy about that!
I also smelled some honey aromas, but they didn't come through in the flavor. I also smelled something like vanilla. I thought this was an interesting tea, but it had a bitter finish...

This is only my 2nd tulsi tea, but I'm thinking that tulsi may not be my thing. I didn't enjoy the aroma or flavor much. I've seen people mention that tulsi can have a citrusy flavor, but I didn't pick up anything like that here.

My tea preferences:
Black tea: milk & 1 sugar

A delightful, very green Darjeeling of the highest quality, sweet, aromatic, and reminiscent of summer.
