Darjeeling (Sachets) from Hampstead Tea
Style: Darjeeling Black Tea – Region: Darjeeling, India77 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Oct. 4th, 2012
I fell in love with Hampstead tea's loose-leaf Darjeeling some time ago, and it was not before picking up some samples at World Tea East this year that I had an opportunity to try any of their tea bags.
This is called a "sachet" but it's not a pyramid bag--just a humble tea bag. The tea inside is pretty broken up, ...
Lapsang Souchong Smoky Black Tea (Yan Xun Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) from TeaVivre
Style: Lapsang Souchong – Region: Wuyi, Fujian, China57 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Sep. 24th, 2012
The dry leaf smells strongly of pine smoke, more like the British style of Lapsang Souchong, which I find is often overly smoky. But upon brewing, this tea's smokiness mellows out considerably. There's still a lot of that campfire or wood smoke smell, but it doesn't overwhelm.
Flavor and mouthfeel is exceptionally...
Makaibari Estate FTGFOP1S Second Flush (DJ-142) from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Darjeeling Second Flush – Region: Darjeeling, India90 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 3/5
Sep. 23rd, 2012
Color me spoiled, addicted, imprinted like a baby duck. This was the first single estate Darjeeling I ever sampled and nothing else has ever come close to the golden Muscatel notes (the very apotheosis of the trait), and summery, so-second-flush hints of dark dried fruits, nuts and spice with just the right touch of wo...

Best green tea I've ever had. I drink Lipton Yellow label; as a rule that is my drink, but last week I had Wei-Chuan green tea and it was great with a meal of shrimp and snow pea pods with fried rice. The tea just was just the right amount to add to the meal, not take it over.
I was just lucky enough to pick it up ...
Yun Nan Dian Hong Black Tea – Golden Tip from TeaVivre
Style: Yunnan Gold – Region: Yunnan, China63 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5
Sep. 7th, 2012
I liked this tea a lot. It had a subtle flavor and was really smooth. I thought the tea smelled a little like cooked greens, which I like, so I had no problem with that. I probably wouldn't pay the price, but I can see why others would, it's a high quality tea.

A robust, good-quality English Breakfast tea with a quality slightly suggestive of Yunnan black teas.
The large, mostly whole leaves infuse quite slowly, but this tea becomes quite strong if you let it steep long enough. Moderate bitterness, full-bodied, not too astringent.
I would be curious to learn what goes ...
Old Style Tie Guan Yin Anxi Wulong 2010 from Seven Cups
Style: Tie Guan Yin – Region: Anxi, Fujian, China43 / 100 Aroma: 4/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Aug. 27th, 2012
I sampled this in a blind tea tasting, alongside with the 2011 batch of this same tea. The two teas, while recognizably similar in style, were radically different in overall character.
This tea had a sour flavor and overall subdued quality. There was less bitterness and less astringency than the 2012 batch, but le...

Sampled in a blind tea tasting hosted by Evan Draper. Thanks, Evan, for the tea and the brewing!
This was the first tea we sampled, and was among my favorites of the batch.
Aroma was woody, toasty, and floral, in all infusions. First infusion was light and predominately aromatic. Second was more bitter and con...
British Blend - Premium Black Tea - Decaffeinated from Tetley Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend30 / 100 Aroma: 1/10 Flavor: 2/5 Value: 2/5

Terrible, I am glad I did not waste my own money on this, I really hate Tetley. All of these are just the same. My Mum and Dad drink this, But I really think it is just like a clone of a weak type of Earl Grey, Just more Watery and horrible. To actually get this a better flavour, Give it a squirt of honey and some suga...

Basicly, This Tea is very poor and Overpriced, Hardly any Aroma or Taste, If you like extremely watery weak tea, This tea is for you. As for my taste, I love very strong tea, I don't really recommend this tea because it is overpriced and in my opinion this Tea is poor and is not worked on at all. Just tricking poor peo...

I tend to love everything that comes out of Makaibari estate, and this tea is no exception. I still think I prefer their first flush and long-leaf greens, but this was another very good tea, and people who like darker black teas might actually prefer this one.
A fairly complex Darjeeling. Powerful grape-like aroma...

This tea is interesting. It has a strong aroma of molasses, which is a little weird. The flavor is pretty good. It's strong and deep. I added cream and sugar. It's kind of hard to brew with my small infuser because the balls expand so much.

I don't think this is my kind of tea. It's a little weird, but all right. I'm not sure how to describe it. It doesn't have a very strong flavor, and I tend to like strong tea with bold flavors. I added cream and sugar. It's not worth the price to me. It also generates a lot of foam in the leaves while brewing, and ther...

This struck me as a very high-quality tea, quite distinct from any other dragon well / long jing, and unlike anything I have ever tried. A bit more like yellow tea than green tea.

Tea bag has little aroma, but upon brewing the aroma really emerges...rich, malty, and complex.
Brews a very dark cup, very full-bodied and thick. Although this is among the most full-bodied teas I've sampled in quite a long time, and the aroma is powerful, the flavor is surprisingly weak, especially for this style...

In spite of having tried quite a few Yunnan teas by now, this was something completely different for me! Very interesting, although a little bit difficult to brew to satisfaction. The dry leaf, rolled into dense spheres, has only a mild aroma, more suggestive of Keemun than other Yunnan teas.
I first used a small ...
Breakfast Blend (Morning Rise) from Numi Organic Tea
Style: Black Tea – Region: Blend87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 4/5
Aug. 14th, 2012
One of my favorite bagged teas in the morning is Numi's Breakfast Blend. The tea blends four Fair Trade organic black teas: Assam, Ceylon, Darjeeling and Keemun. The blend combines the best of the four types into a flavorful and pleasing brew; strong flavored yet mild.
