Picture of Fengqing Paddy Flavor Raw Pu-erh Cake Tea 2006

Fengqing Paddy Flavor Raw Pu-erh Cake Tea 2006 from TeaVivre

Style: Raw (Sheng) Pu-erh – Region: Fengqing, Yunnan, China

83 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 16th, 2013

I found this tea to be a very enjoyable Pu-erh, typical for its age and unusual only in the degree to which it produced a tingling and numbing sensation on the palate.

I received a sample which was a mostly-whole piece broken off a Pu-erh cake. The leaves were largely intact and it was very easy to break apart with...

Lady Grey from Twinings

Style: Fruit Black Tea – Region: Blend

90 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Apr. 15th, 2013

Although it is a relatively inexpensive tea, I really enjoy this lady grey from Twinings. Those who enjoy a more subtle flavor of tea will enjoy this. It has a slightly fruity taste which I enjoy. It's the best when eating sweets I think. The light citrus flavor will compliment tart fruit flavors and offset sweeter fla...

Organic White Tea from Lotus Leaf Tea

Style: White Peony Tea – Region: China

80 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Apr. 15th, 2013

I normally like white peony tea more than silver needle because it is richer and darker. Judging by the appearance of the leaf, I would expect this tea to be lighter in color and flavor.

But I found this tea to be very dark and rich in flavor when brewed. Aroma is strongly fruity, a characteristic I don't usually ...

Tangerine Ginger from Rishi Tea

53 / 100 Aroma: 5/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 15th, 2013

Very gingery, especially in the finish. Sour, and suggesting of sweetness but without actually being sweet. Oddly similar to fruit juice.

I found this blend interesting to try, but it was not the sort of thing I would like to drink on a regular basis because it was too sour for me. It is quite complex, however, b...

Organic Tian Mu Mao Feng Green Tea from TeaVivre

Style: Mao Feng Green Tea – Region: Zhejiang, China

60 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 3/5
Apr. 14th, 2013

I was expecting to like this tea a lot, and I just didn't. It wasn't terrible, but I liked it considerably less than a number of much cheaper teas, and than most of the other green teas I've sampled from TeaVivre.

Wiry dry leaf has an intense aroma, very fresh, and suggestive of savory qualities, but also highly ve...

Assam Tea from Mountain Rose Herbs

Style: Assam – Region: Assam, India

70 / 100 Aroma: 9/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 2/5
Apr. 14th, 2013

This tea has a slightly smoky, sweet aroma. The tea is kind of dry tasting, but it has a crisp flavor. It's a bit bitter when I brew it strong enough. It tastes kind of like lapsang souching. I added cream and sugar.

Very mild and floral with a slight hint of that typical 'green' taste of green teas. Very delicate and mild and perfect for someone longing for a spring day! I think this might be my new favorite green

I am usually not a huge fan of honeybush tea but this tea was delicious! The hazelnut compliments it perfectly and it lasts several steepings. Really good with a dash of cream.

This chai is not bad but it is also not very overwhelming. I was hoping for more of a rich spicy chai with a chocolate zing but it was mainly a mild chai with more chocolate aroma than taste.

This just might be my new favorite from Adagio! Wonderfully floral and fruity with just a slight tart taste...just like guanabana fruit. It tastes good black or with a bit of sugar and milk.

The tea leaves smell very chocolaty but sadly I felt like the tea just tasted burnt. Also tastes a bit bitter like dark chocolate which I liked and felt complimented the tea taste. Wish it did not have the burnt taste or it would be a favorite!

Apr. 12th, 2013

The first thing you notice with this tea is the overpowering perfume of roses, it is like walking into a rose garden during full summer and everything is in bloom. It is not at all unpleasant or artificial smelling.

The taste is sublime, it is like drinking a rose garden with a really lovely black tea. Subtly sweet...

I love almond teas and I am always looking for new ones to try, this one did not disappoint. At first the aroma of the leaves had me a bit worried, it was almost overpowering and I thought the tea would be bitter from almond extract (a common problem with almond teas) but upon brewing I discovered that the tea was not ...

English Breakfast from Twinings

Apr. 12th, 2013

I thought this tea uninteresting. As an English Breakfast tea, I strongly prefer Twinings Ceylon Orange Pekoe. If they labelled that tea as their English Breakfast, I'd be perfectly convinced.

This tea has a very bold flavor. It is quite bitter--more so than astringent, which I like. Produces a clear cup with a ...

Jasmine Black Tea from Ahmad Tea

Apr. 12th, 2013

I regularly drink jasmine green tea, and this jasmine-scented black tea was a completely new experience for me. It was very different, and a bit odd at first, but as I've drunk more of it (I'm glad I got a half pound) I've come to like it very much.

Dry leaf has a potent but smooth jasmine aroma. I don't notice mu...

This tea, unsurprisingly, smells like roses. The aroma is probably my favorite part of the tea, it smells like a garden. The tea itself which has a very light peppermint flavor which is rounded and smoothed out by the flowers in the blend. Overall, while it's more expensive then I would pay to drink on a regular basis,...

Smoked over pine fires in bamboo baskets this tea captures the taste of the fire. It is a perfect tea for cold winter nights…the taste reminded me of warm fires, high mountains, and clear cold skies. You can taste the full spectrum of tea with this type…the warmth from the sun, the aging leaf, and the smoke from th...

I'm not crazy about the flavor of this tea. It's a little bitter, and very sensitive to brewing time. I brewed it for 2 minutes and that seems to be optimal. I usually brew tea for at least 4 minutes because I like it strong. I added cream and sugar.

This tea has a heavily citrus aroma. The tea doesn't taste very good to me, but I don't know what Lady Grey is supposed to taste like. It tastes very citrus and has a weak tea flavor. I like it enough to finish the cup, though. I added cream and sugar.

A drinkable and inexpensive green tea with a mild flavor. I tried this shortly after Wegmans' bancha; the leaf of this tea is more intact, but the dry leaf is not particularly aromatic. I prefer Wegmans' offering even though it is more broken.

Brews a golden color cup with a lot of dust at the bottom. Mild aroma....

This was a surprisingly good tea, the best broken-leaf bancha I have ever tried. Finely broken leaf looks unimpressive, and has a mild grainy aroma, like porridge or grits.

I brewed considerably longer than Wegmans recommended--their 1-1.5 minute guide seemed on the short side. This produced a mild, smooth cup tha...

This is a standard black tea; it is mild, and not very complex. I let it sit for a good six minutes, and it still did not taste bitter or astringent. I think I would have preferred a richer tasting tea, but I still appreciate the quality of this one.

This tea was good for an average black, and I found it refreshing. The dried leaf smelled like lemon, which was a nice pick-me-up. The lemon hints didn't extend to the taste of the tea, which I also appreciated since I'm not much of a lemon tea fan! Overall I liked the tea, but I would look elsewhere if you are look...

Apr. 10th, 2013

I was craving coffee the day that I had it and felt like it was a suitable replacement! It smelled and tasted roasted, and I felt like it was a little thicker than your average tea - especially surprising for a green. Overall I really enjoyed this tea and would have it again, especially if coffee is not in sight!
