Young Tea Leaves and Bud, Camellia Sinensis Plant

Young tea plant shoot with leaf bud, serrated, alternate leaves, tea plants in backgroundView Full Resolution

This photo shows a closeup of the new leaves and bud of a rapidly-growing Camellia sinensis plant. It is the buds and new leaves which are used for most tea production; the typical grade of tea, orange pekoe, consists of two leaves and a bud. Tippy teas contain a higher portion of bud, and tend to be more expensive.
