Iran(ایران‎‎ in Persian) is a large country in Western Asia. Although most of Iran is arid, part of the north boundary of the country has a coast with the Caspian sea, and a small region along this coast has a mild and humid climate ideally-suited to growing tea. A significant amount of tea is grown in this area, particularly in Gilan Province(اُستان گیلان‎‎) along the western portion of this coast. Iran has been one of the World's top 10 tea producers in most years.

Due in part to cultural and economic isolation from the West, teas grown in Iran are rarely available in the U.S., but some companies do sell these teas. Although the U.S. currently has rather strict sanctions against imports from Iran, the few exceptions include tea, as the sanctions exempt foodstuffs intended for human consumption.
