Pu-erh Tea, Compressed into a Brick

Brick of compressed tea, dark brown in color, on a beige background with Chinese charactersView Full Resolution

This photo shows a Pu-erh brick, dark tea from Yunnan province, compressed into a rectangular shape. This simple shape is actually one of the less common shapes for Pu-erh; more commonly, it is compressed into round, flat disks.

There are also other dark teas other than Pu-erh, such as ones produced in Sichuan province and exported to Tibet, which are compressed into a brick shape like pictured here.
