Loose-Leaf Sencha, Simply Good Tea

Loose-leaf green tea with fairly dark color, somewhat broken leaf

This was the only tea sold by Simply Good Tea that I thought was outright bad. It was bitter and astringent, and when brewed weakly enough to diminish the unpleasant qualities, was thin and bland.

It's hard to tell the quality just by looking at the leaf alone. This tea lacks the vibrant green quality of top-quality sencha, but I've drunk other teas that look more-or-less similar to what is pictured here, which tasted much better. It shows that sometimes you need to brew, or at least smell, the leaf to tell much about a tea's quality.
