A peculiar blend of a light black tea with saffron, a spice not normally associated with tea. I liked it, but this is not a tea for everyone.
Brews a golden cup with a noticeable saffron aroma. Light, but a bit edgy. Unusually bitter for such a light-bodied tea--much more sharp tasting than even the more bitter Darjeeling first flush teas. When drinking, the saffron is most evident in the aftertaste.
This was a unique blend and I liked it a lot. I got the sense that the base tea was of high quality. Some people may be put off by the strong bitterness--this is by no means a mild tea--but I liked it very much. Like most of Hampstead's offerings, I thought it was very reasonably priced.
