Served in Velvet Sky Bakery in Jenkintown.
This was a very strong, robust Earl Grey that had an intense, classic Earl Grey aroma, combining a powerful, malty base tea with a bold bergamot presence.
Octavia Tea informs me that the base tea used is a Yunnan tea...it definitely seems to have the strength and character of the darker Yunnan teas, but I can't quite pick out the distinctive Yunnan qualities because the dominant aroma is of bergamot.
Moderately perfumey, and slightly citrusy. Flavor is bitter and there is moderate astringency, which I find pleasing.
This is the second tea I've tried from Octavia tea. So far both of them were strong in flavor as well as fresh and aromatic. Price is definitely on the high end though. If I were going to spend this much money on a loose-leaf tea, I'd want to buy a pure tea, not an Earl Grey.
