i've been using this Kirdland Japanese green tea from Costco for years....but the current box i bought recently, the quality of the tea is not the same any more. the tast is different - it doesn't tast that strong like before. the color of the tea is also different. now it's yellow-ish green color. it's used to be so green before, but not anymore. i just bought 3 extra boxes because of the sales going on from Costco. will have to return them all. so disappointed!!

Welcome to RateTea, and thank you for your first review!

That sounds disappointing.

My experience has been that brands like Kirkland don't necessarily take tea very seriously. Sometimes they may change supplier or even the type of tea in their tea bags, without really telling people. Costco does tend to have good quality food in certain areas, but I don't think tea is their strong suit.

If you want to get higher-quality green tea, I recommend buying from companies that focus more on Chinese or Japanese teas, and sell tea of named varieties (not just generic "green tea") and from specific regions, like a province of China or prefecture of Japan.

And of course, if you're willing to try out loose-leaf, it opens a lot of doors. If you still want tea bags, I'd recommend a brand like Yamamotoyama, which is a Japanese company. Their Japanese teas, in my experience, have been pretty good for tea bags, and are reasonably priced.

Let me know if you have any questions about the site or want more tea recommendations. There is a ton of info on our site...try exploring "Styles" at the top, and then explore the specific pages on green tea if you want to learn more about green tea.
