A classic Wuyi oolong of high quality, with whole, intact leaves and a complex aroma. The dry leaf has a pleasant roasty smell, with a honey-like floral note. I find the dry leaf very pleasing to smell.
Brews up a rather clear and light cup with a light flavor. The aroma is both roasty and floral with nutty notes and hints of dried fruit, a little like caramel too. The finish is moderately astringent, and slightly metallic. Seems to have a cool, refreshing quality, which is surprising given the roasty aromatic notes. Tastes more warming when brewed more strongly, which I like.
Resteeps easily! Using around 2.5 grams of leaf (a little over 1/3rd the packet), I preferred making two steepings, starting with 5 minutes, followed by a very long steep, but I also was able to make three (slightly weaker) cups using briefer steeps. I think this tea would work well with lazy brewing in the infuser bottle sold by Simply Good Tea, but I preferred brewing it in a mug and controlling the steeping time.
A very typical example of a Wuyi oolong. Nothing life-changing about this tea but it was enjoyable to drink and has a good price. I'm starting to feel that this company, Simply Good Tea, lives up to its name--its quality seems consistently solid.
