The dry leaf smells mild, but pleasant and interesting, hinting at baked goods.
Produces a moderately full-bodied cup, only lightly bitter, with a somewhat subdued flavor. The aroma is a little weak, and easy to ignore. I find if I pay attention to it though, it's quite interesting, I do notice the hints of mace that Upton mentions in the description. Finish is moderately astringent, never too much so.
Upton recommends using a little more than a teaspoon, and I agree; this tea comes out a bit too weak otherwise.
I was surprised to find this tea resteeps very well, using a long (~10 min) steep, after a first steep of 3 minutes. The second cup had a slightly thinner, but crisper character, contrasting with the warm, rounded character of the first cup.
Very cheap. I enjoyed this and would not complain drinking it repeatedly. It was an inoffensive tea, pleasant, and drinkable.
