This tea is rather robust. It's not bitter per say, but definetly can use some milk or cream to top it all off. With out milk, this tea is rather rough and strong. Overall though, this tea is very well crafted and goes well with a blanket on a cold rainy day. Being rather caffeinated, I usually have this tea on days when I have to get up early to give me that extra boost that English breakfast tea doesn't always provide.
