SuperbExcellentGood Value

I don't have a lot of experience with brewing Japanese green tea, so I probably didn't brew this as well as it deserved. I brewed it in my gaiwan, figuring that shouldn't be too much different from brewing it in a shiboridashi. I ended up with a lot of small pieces of tea in my cup because I didn't have any kind of filter, but it worked well enough.

I found this to be more sweet, nutty, and vegetal than grassy or umami like I expected. It did have more of the umami flavor in the aftertaste, however. That taste stuck in the back of my throat long after finishing the tea, something I don't remember experiencing with green tea before. I got four or five infusions out of it before it started getting weak. Unlike most Chinese green tea, which I get tired of quickly, I wanted more. I'll definitely have to try some more sencha soon.

I don't know how to rate the value of this since I'm not familiar enough with sencha to be able to judge whether or not it's worth the price. It seems expensive to me, and as much as I liked it, it's more than I'm willing to pay. However, I could still tell that it was far superior to the cheaper Japanese green teas I've had.
