This is one of several teas I've ordered from Amazon recently, throwing them into an order to get over the free shipping threshold. It is also the first tea I've ever tried from Chota Tingrai estate, although I've tried a number of other teas from other gardens in the Tinsukia region. I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
The dry leaf has a pleasing aroma, and was very fresh when it arrived. Relative to other Assams, it smells more bright and cool. The smell of the dry leaf suggests a cup that will be a bit more refreshing, brisk, and good to drink in summer.
The brewed cup is very much like what I'd expect from how the dry leaf looks and smells. I love the mouthfeel; it's perfect, just the right amount of astringency. Full-bodied and thick but without being too heavy. This tea feels so fresh and light to drink. The cup is not quite as aromatic as I'd like. There are some fruity notes, but less of the rich, deep malty notes. Slightly more tannic than most teas of this grade, but I found that largely welcome.
I love how I feel after drinking this tea. It seems to have a moderate caffeine kick, making a good breakfast tea, but it also feels balanced. I never became jittery after drinking this, even brewing in strongly and drinking multiple cups back-to-back.
This tea resteeps very well.
Relatively easy to brew, although I recommend using slightly more leaf than normal for an Assam. This tea tastes best when brewed on the stronger side.
I recommend this one for anyone who likes bold, brisk black teas, especially if you want something with a bit of a more cooling vibe, something good for drinking in hot weather. I have not made this as iced tea but given how refreshing it is when hot, I think it would make a great iced tea too.
